Rock the Ribbon 2013: Celebrating the Strength and Brilliance of the Women We Serve

By on September 25th, 2013 Categories: Events, Inside Breastcancer.org

Over the past three years, Rock the Ribbon, Breastcancer.org’s annual fundraising event, has attracted over 2,000 people and raised over $1.6 million in support of our organization (80% of all funding goes to support our programs, so this event is hugely important to our organization). This year, we’re taking the event to Vie in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, October 24, for the marquise celebration of the year!

Our inspiration for this year’s event is our community — the women for whom Breastcancer.org exists. We’ve highlighted the experiences of some of our community friends at past events, but this year, they’re our stars. Celebrating the strength and brilliance of those women, and with a nod to the name of our venue, Vie, our theme is…

Vibrant. Inspired. Empowered.

Vie means life in French, and with this event, we honor the lives of women we serve who inspire us with their vibrant spirits. The event also gives us the opportunity to thank our generous donors and demonstrate how their support helps to empower the women we serve by enabling our mission — to help women and their loved ones make sense of the complex medical and personal information about breast cancer so they can make the best decisions for their lives.

I am very excited to introduce a new initiative for this year — Project Posh. Through Project Posh, three women currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer will each receive a full day of beauty culminating in attendance at Rock the Ribbon, where they will have the chance to share their inspiring stories with attendees.

Their day will include hair and makeup, a cocktail-chic look, and transportation to the event, made possible in part through in-kind support by Nordstrom, Uber, and Pileggi on the Square.

Another new addition to this year’s event is a special Digital Lounge. In order to drive home the importance of continued funding of our programs, we will be able to demonstrate our new content and web platform improvements to the guests at Rock the Ribbon — our generous donors. We’re excited to be able to show donors where their dollars go — attendees will be able to navigate through the site and see for themselves how their support helps those diagnosed with breast cancer most effectively find the answers and information they need.  Our content and editorial team will be on hand in the lounge to answer questions and provide guidance.

We are honored to welcome back NBC10 reporter, veteran journalist, eight-time Emmy Award-winner, and breast cancer survivor Lu Ann Cahn as our event host for the second year!

And of course, no party would be complete without dancing! Music will be provided by Chico’s Vibe, who closed out last year’s event with a rocking dance party. All attendees will enjoy an open bar, sumptuous food stations, a silent auction, complimentary valet parking, and more. And for the first time, we’re offering a Young Professionals ticket. Individuals 35 and younger can purchase tickets at a discounted rate.

If you are in the Philadelphia area, I hope you can join us for this brilliant event. As our premier fundraiser, the evening gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate those who’ve inspired our work AND helps ensure that we are able to maintain and expand our programs and services to the millions of women around the world who rely on us — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Thank you for your support!
