Now and again Im prompted write and expound on the things of God. I therefore say, as Ive said in times past, that anyone who claims to speak for God or writes about Christian things, should allow their work to be scrutinized by all. As good Bereans, the reader should be allowed to 'see if those things were so'. Plainly, if I have erred from Scripture, (KJV) then I welcome comments and indeed correction.
Act 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Theres a large chunk of what God requires of us laid out Scripture. Some of it involves nothing other than straight out obedience, and when we dont obey, it doesnt go well for us. It's that simple. We all experience,as well, 'the hard road to one degree or another' because of our sin nature. That hard road is our 'flesh life' warring against the things of the Spirit., whether its lusts pride or whatever. Some of it is more convoluted. When it comes to our own attitudes about things theres plenty in the word about this, but it takes time to see and time to work it out in our lives. Otherwise known as growth. Like babes, we start on the sincere 'milk of the word' moving onto 'meat' as we grow.
The more we dig to find out about Gods will the more we find it is an immense thing, and all encompassing in everything with Whom we have to do. Over the last few decades or so there has been some really bogus and dangerous doctrines about Gods will in general and essentially healing in particular, basically culminated with an intensified hyperfaith movement, which has long since erred from the word, by not rightly dividing the word of truth. ( 2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. )
The key words you will hear amongst its ranks have taken a foothold into every facet of life and become fully engrained into society as acceptable. Beware! There is nothing acceptable about positive thinking. The word is not mentioned ONCE in the Bible. Its comes from the 'speak it into being' crowd and is actually witchcraft, trying to get God organized where and when they please, like using a fourmula to make it happen. It has long been the dream of witches to manipulate reality. At the end of the day, positive thinking et al, either does one of 2 things.... Gives satan a platform to work either healing you or dangling you on a string. Yes satan can heal, but at what cost!!!!Either way, if you play in the devils playground he WILL eventually collect the rent.
So, there's some factions who preach, overemphasizing that if you are sick its because you dont believe anough or have enough faith. This has caused immense damage and disillusionment, both amongst the unsaved and saved alike. It has never stopped bringing Gods name into disrepute.
To get to the point, the fact of the matter is Paul suffered, and he is there as an example for us, like others. He suffered many things over and over again. Moreover, we have indicators that God answered Pauls requests but not how he (Paul) necessarily wanted. For example, three times he prayed for that thorn in the flesh to be removed. We needn't speculate as to what this was, but one thing we do know that it was, was it was UNPLEASANT. And why would God not remeove it? To keep Paul humble because of the abundance of visions. God has His reasons for why we each go through things, and one of them is so we can be supportive of others.
2Co 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
2Co 1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
2Co 1:6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
2Co 1:7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
This following list is extremely revealing and indicative of suffering which blows the hyperfaith movement clean out of the water.
2Co 7:5 For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.
.....in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
2Co 11:24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
2Co 11:25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
2Co 11:26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
2Co 11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
2Co 11:28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
You see, faith is given from God in the first place, and one way we can increase it is by reading the word .....Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. It is never (legitimately) something we can pump up or manafacture or make happen by our will power or somesuch.
Blessing to all.
We heard here yet again on the news headlines how a good part of America is still enduring shocking temperatures many places over 40degr Cels. Dear Lord, I pray especially for any BC ladies in these areas, and mostly those without power. Please speak to them in their hour of need Lord! Please comfort them and be their strength. Thankyou Lord. Amen and Amen.
