Does anyone have any info on this? I am an IBC survivor (4years) and my good friend just passed her 5 year mark, turned 30 and got told it has come back there.....

I don't have any specific info for you, but I have heard that it can reoccur there (and just about anywhere).  Unfortunately, your friend will probably have to go through a few tests and a couple of weeks until they find out exactly what's going on with her and what to treat it with.   30 is way too young to be dealing with this stuff!  My heart goes out to her.

I agree.... she said they will have the pathology report today and then they need to coordinate surgery and then at the very least radiation. It hit me like a ton of bricks....and makes one look at their own possiblities....but I am better today and ready to help her fight!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Please keep us posted on how she's doing.

If you don't mind sharing the details, I'd be interested to hear how she was diagnosed with her recurrence, b/c I worry about a pectoralis muscle recurrence in my own case. My tumor was invading the muscle--the surgeon got a clean margin, and I had extra radiation to the muscle, but the surgeon said I'm most likely to recur there if I have a local recurence. I've always wondered how they would find it if I did.

They found hers with a routine pet scan. She was stage II A or B and had a double mastectomy with reconstruction then....plus she was 4 weeks to finish her 5 year regiment of Tamoxifen when this happened.

Her next treatment is to reexcise (not sure how to spell that) the tumor and remove the implant the first week of nov.

Thanks, txred. My onc doesn't do routine scans, so I wonder how she'd ever find anything if there's ever anything to find. Ugh.

I'm sorry your friend was hit with this so close to the end of her Tamoxifen. That sucks. Send her hugs from all of us here at bc.org.

Nash... I don't know what to tell you because my friend had NO symptoms at all and without the scan it would not have been found.

Sad thing was....she was given the go ahead that after 3 months being off Tamoxifen they could try to have a baby......thats on hold now of course...

I saw her yesterday and she seems to be doing ok. She said she does not know much and may not until surgery.

Surgery went well and they think they got clean margins. IF this is the case they might just to rads at this time. she didnt have them the first time around.

Glad her sugery went well. That would be great if she doesn't have to do chemo. I had radiation to the chest wall when I did my rads--didn't notice any difference between that and the breast radiation.

As it turns out they only got 1mm margins so went back in yesterday. More details are emerging and she will do Xeloda, rads,an ooph and then an aromotase inhibitor.

She is holding up pretty good so far but I really don't think it has all set in yet.

My friend Sarah has been through a lot the last couple weeks.  She got the results of her PET scan and it has not spread.!!!! THANK YOU LORD!!!

She goes tomorrow to find out for sure what they are going to do with her treatment plan. She may have to have chemo and not just oral chemo.
