My mother who is dealing with Stage IV Breast Cancer (for the second time around) is of full Greek heritage - she came from Kavala, Greece to finish her PhD here in the States.

I know speaking to her would have been more helpful, but I just wanted to post and let you know that you are not alone. Kali tihi.

Otters,

Thank you for replying.  I do not know of any Greek women with triple negative breast cancer from greek decent.  I was born in Sparta and came to the US at the age of seven.  I had one aunt with breast cancer estrogen + and was on tamoxifin for a number of years.  She was from Kalamata.  She passed away last year from complications due to her cancer.

Tell me a little about your mom and what she has gone thru and is going thru.

I am first generation Greek, both of my parents are from Sparta.  It's been a year since diagnosis and surgery.  Did chemo and herceptin, just about ready to finish Herceptin next month.

I wish you much luck.

,Hi RoulaG: I don't know if I really qualify to be in this thread. However, I have been married to a Greek for more than 40 years. I am replying to you because he is from Laconia(Zygouris) we are in Toronto but he has never come across anyone from there.
He is supportive to a point but tends to minimize my cancer. He tells everyone that I had a "little cancer" but that I'm fine now. He does not realize that cancer can and does recur.
I think I'll leave him with his head in the sand because I'm not sure he could handle it, God knows, it's hard enough for me and I'm a much stronger character than him.
