(((((((Deb))))))) Hope the antibiotics clear it up fast!
Concert was good.
Ugh - what a night afterward though. DD has orientation at college today. She had to take a calculus readiness test. She could take it two times max. Ironically, she is taking calculus now, but I had a feeling she wasn't going to remember the old stuff that would be on the test. If she passed the test with a high enough score, she could take calculus, otherwise, she would need to take an extra calculus course - which would put her behind for physics - unless she doesn't take the physics with calculus course and takes the lower level sequence. Ugh. So she took it Monday night and got the minimum score required for the lower level 3-course Calculus sequence. Great. So I quickly went over the problems with her so she could understand how to do them. When she went to take it again, it had similar, but different problems. She was going along nicely, when all of a sudden it didn't accept her answer. Then she couldn't access the test anymore. She was in tears. I tried to go on another computer and I could access other websites, but not any of the school's websites. Perhaps they took them down for maintenance? It was shortly before midnight. When she went back on this morning, all her time had run out and she couldn't finish the test. I told her it isn't that big a deal. Perhaps she should take the slower-paced class so that she learns the material well - unlike how well she was able to learn it from her crappy teacher last year. But it might put her behind for physics. This sucks. It also sucks that the 3 course sequence spilts the first course of the two course sequence into 2 courses and then the third course of the 3-course sequence is the same class as the 2nd course of the 2-course sequence - and that course is much harder. It's like they make the easier class easier and then dump you into the same hard 2nd class. Yeah, that's helpful. Duh.
Can't put things off 'til the last minute - I so informed her thusly. Maybe she should have spent a little less time texting her bf and thinking about prom and spent more time preparing for college. Oh - and if she wasn't spending time making up work that she never handed in on time for THIS semester, she would have had more time to take the test. Do you see a pattern here?
So this morning I was giving her a crash course in what the general education requirements are so she might have some familiarity with what her choices are when she picks her classes today. I've been looking at this stuff for months. Did she pay any attention? Of course not. I was even up til 1:30 am the other night copying and pasting courses in the different content areas into an Excel spreadsheet and sorting and grouping them so I could see which ones satisfied multiple requirements - to kill as many birds with as few stones as possible. She has a lot of courses she wants to take that aren't even on those lists, so she can't be cluttering up her schedule too much with courses she's not interested in. So much work - wasted. Why do I bother?
Oh - and that's all on top of spending most of my days at the hospital taking FIL to visit MIL who had a stroke last week. She is getting better, but needs speech therapy. She has word finding difficulties and sometimes doesn't seem to understand what we're saying. She is also weak, but I haven't seen a noticeable difference in her strength on one side vs the other as is typical with strokes. FIL was pretty out of it after his stroke last year and improved a lot, so I am hopeful that she will improve also. Time will tell.
