Did anyone try this? Did it help? Are there different brands? I think at least CVS has one.. Any brand better than the other(s)? There is an area in my scar that is more red and elevated. I could try something to make it look less prominent. All the best, ĺucky

Hi Ladies, Just thought I'd give an update on my scar situation. I used the CVS scar sheets for a short while last spring, but I found that they didn't stick for very long, and when I used the paper tape to try to keep them on longer, my skin started to itch (and I'm not allergic to adhesives). I found another brand at Walmart, called Dr. Blaine's, which I have been using since the end of June. I found that I was able to use these sheets for a lot longer than the CVS sheets (before they lost their stickiness), and I think this brand has been more helpful for flattening out my scars, and preventing the widening that was happening in one area. When I saw my surgeon at my nine month check-up, she said that she could definitely see and feel a difference. I try to wear the sheets for close to 24 hours a day. I do take them off for a short time, almost every day, and rub some rose hip seed oil into my scars. I have no idea if this is helping, but the stuff was pricey, so I figured I should use it! Also, I don't shower with the scar sheets on. I still have one small area on one of my scars that's elevated. I had been using one long sheet across each mastectomy scar, but I think that the sheet was not laying flat across my entire scar--I think it was gapping in some areas. So, now I'm cutting the sheets into a few smaller pieces, with the hope that it will lay flatter against my scar, and that this one raised area will have pressure exerted on it and flatten out. I hope all of that made sense! I don't know how long people have used the scar sheets before stopping, but at this point, I plan to use them indefinitely. Anyone else have any updates? Audrey |

Audrey I am using Dr Blaine's scar treatment also. I just started about 2 weeks ago...I think the recommended time to use is 3 months so I should be finished with my treatment by Christmas. I have been seeing a commerical on TV for Dr Blaine's.....I purchased mine at Wal-mart... Don't deny the diagnosis, but defy the verdict.........

I bought the CVS ones. I find that after 1 or 2 washings they do not stick anymore. My lumpectomy scar is in an awkward place, on the inside curvature of my breast: almost a concave area, which is probably why they don't want to stick. My scar is long, so I have been running one full strip corner to corner to cover it. I have been using paper tape to hold them on but I start radiation next week. I imagine I will not be able to stand the paper tape then, on irritated irradiated skin. What do I do then? Thanks for your help! |

linn, you should ask your rad onc about using anything on your skin while undergoing radiation. He/she may tell you it is not a good idea. As far as sticking to the skin, I found that the Oleeva strips kept sticking and sticking even after daily wearing for 23 hours, daily washing with plain soap, even after three months. Yes, three months. You might try them after you recover from rads. The brachioplasty strip can be cut into the shape you need. Tina

Tina, how does one go about getting one Oleeva strip? The website indicates they are sold in boxes of 10, presumably to plastic surgeon's offices. Dx 1/12/09, IDC 2.6 cm, Stage 2a, Grade 1, 0/10 nodes, ER+/PR+/HER2-, Onco 14, BRCA neg. Bilat mx w/TEs 2/3/09. CMFx6 3/2-6/15/09. Zometa 5/09-?. Tamox 7/09-? Exchange with gummy implants 9/9/09.

Thanks! I will plan on getting a better one after radiation. I asked the doctor today and she said to stop during it, as no one know the effects of irradiating absorbed silicone. The techs said they thought my scar looked surprisingly good, though. I have been using the CVS ones practically round the clock since the last surgery in late August. Though maybe they were just telling me that. |

Thanks lbrewer! I ordered a brachioplasty and will cut it to fit. FYI, my ps just told me to go to Walgreens and get any brand of silicone sheet. Well, I went there and they no longer carry them. I know that they used to (because I bought them there before) and the pharmacist seemed surprised, but I checked two different locations and neither carried them. I also searched CVS online (we don't have one by me) and it doesn't appear to carry the ones people are talking about on this thread. At least, when I search silicone & scar, I'm not finding it. I am currently using Scar Away patches ($29.99 for 12) that I got off Amazon and they seem to be fine, but I want to get the best thing. When I had my exchange, I had a keloid scar on my back excised, which I know is a risky thing, and I want to do everything possible to try to prevent it from coming back.
