Hi all-
I just had my exchange surgery on June 30th. I had had a bilateral, nipple-sparing mastectomy with TE's, and I actually had pretty good cosmetic results with the expanders. I liked their shape on my body for the most part, and my nipple was exactly where it seemed it should be.
My implants are the Gummy 410's, 500cc's. I'm worried because my left nipple is not lying smooth and projected as it was with the TE's. It's a little wrinkled or puckered, with folds, as though the implant doesn't push it out enough to look normal and natural. I'm wondering if anyone else had this problem, and whether it got better naturally over time as the implant settles into place. If not, is it something that can be corrected by my PS? I'd so appreciate the input of anyone who's been through something similar.

Liz, sorry to hear that you are having problems. I don't have Gummy implants but most of the women on here say they don't change much (if any). I hope you have a good outcome. My reply will 'bump' your post back to the top so that maybe someone else with 'Gummy experience' will see it and reply. Best wishes Proud member of the TaTa Sisterhood! :)

Thanks for your reply, rubytuesday. My implants look OK except for this one - dare I say - rumpled nipple! It seems that if the whole thing settles a little it could be OK. I'd love it if anyone else has any insight - did anyone else's gummies settle into a slightly different shape over time? Did anyone else have a nipple that did not properly stretch out? Oh, the questions we need to ask around here! Liz

I unfortunately was unable to save my nipple and had a unilateral complete mastectomy in Nov 08 and my exchange late March 09. I've got a gummy on the mx side and a regular silicone implant on my other side, which needed a lift/augmentation for symmetry. So, I can't answer your question about the nipple, but I can tell you that this gummy hasn't moved since it was put in during March. It's like a hard tennis ball that really takes some getting used to, and I still can't sleep on my stomach because it's just too uncomfortable. I hope someone else comes along who had both the nipple sparing and the gummy, but, for me, the gummy hasn't change one bit since I got it. One the plus side, I guess it will never droop! |

Digger - Thanks for your input. Yes, I guess there are advantages to the fact that this thing won't sag! It does feel unnaturally firm. Why don't PS's talk more about this downside to the gummies? Maybe it just does take getting used to, and I've heard others say that theirs softened a bit over time. I'm now wondering if I should've gotten something with more projection at that midline where the nipple is, or whether fat grafting can be done beneath the nipple to push things out a bit. I won't be seeing my PS (who is excellent, and should be able to solve this?!) for about 2 weeks. I'm trying to keep it in perspective - it''s not a health issue, but a cosmetic one! Big difference. Normally it takes any type of reconstruction time for swelling to go down and things take on a natural appearance. The new breast often drops a little giving it a softer shape. |

I had nipple sparing with 520 and 550 - 410 gummy exchange 3 months ago. The gummy's definitely settled and dropped over the course of the last 3 months. The placement of one of the nipples was off right after exchange surgery but got much better over the course of 4-6 weeks. That nipple still doesn't look right but that's not because of the gummy but because that breast had been radiated in the past and the nipple and tissue almost went necrotric after my bx mastectomy. My experience has been that the gummy's have softened quite a bit and changed shape in terms of where they sit in the pocket so I would wait a few months before judging the final outcome. Also, I wear a athletic bra all the time and I swear that's helped with the implants softening for some reason (when I don;t wear a bra all day they tend the feel much firmer - must have something to do with the pec muscle becoming tight).
