Hi All!

TE's were placed on 7/17 and today I had the first fill of 60cc's (I think) in each breast.  The surgeon was terrific and I did not feel a thing.  I was able to drive home without discomfort.  So far, so good -- but it's only about two hours later!

The surgeon suggested taking Tylenol if I have discomfort tomorrow or Wednesday.  Hope not!

Thanks Val for the good wishes!!  Much appreciated.

I'm sooooo happy that there are men and women with the skill to replace missing body parts.  I've been without breasts for over two years and this is really exciting! Smile

Congratulations Jelly!  I know how it is to be flat for a while.  I have to tell you I did not experience any discomfort until my last two fills.  However, my PS only put in 50 cc at a time.  Good luck!

Jelly,

Congrats on the first fill!   Hopefully, each additional fill will go as smoothly as this one.

I had my last fill on April 15th and hope to be having my "exchange" surgery by the end of Aug.

I can say I have not had one single issue with my expanders...but I'm still looking forward to the exchange.   Just trying now to decide/research between saline vs. silicone.  Good luck!

Susan, Catsmeow & Swest thanks for being so kind and wishing me well.

Cats, are you more inclined to one than another?  Even though I just began this new chapter I'm thinking more of silicone than saline.  From what I understand the silicone feels and looks more real.

It's day two and no pain!  Yeah, Yahoo!!

Hi Jellydonut,

I had surgery mx & TE's 7/16 and will be getting stiches out and 1st fill tommorow.  I am nervous about unknown but sounds like you didnt have issues so maybe I will have the same luck.  How long did it take to do the fill?  Im preety uncomfortable from just the TE's, they feel like they are poking my ribs when I have deep breath.....  is this normal?

Kar,

The fill took literally about two minutes.  This surgeon is very organized and has the process down to a science!  I'm sure you'll do just as well tomorrow.

Be aware that my bilateral mx was over 2.5 years ago,so I have had plenty of time to heal from that.  The TE surgery was on 7/17.  You've had it done in a one shot deal so to speak.  Part of your discomfort, I'm assuming, is from the mx and as each day passes it will lessen.

The PS told me that since I'm small boned (and small overall) he would put in a smaller TE. I'll probably wind up with a B implant.

Do mention to your PS about the poking in your ribs feeling, but I'm hopeful it's just the newness of the TE's.  I DO feel them in my chest and it's quite an odd feeling, to say the least!!   But they're not painful at all for which I'm grateful.

Good luck and good wishes tomorrow.  Let me know what happens.

Hugs,

Jelly

Sorry I've not replied sooner.....but...just saw my PS today and we have scheduled the exchange for September 16th!   I think I skipped out of his office I was so thrilled!   Now, I have to decide between the saline and the silicone......I am leaning towards the saline but just not 100% sure yet.

Hope you continue to do well....it's a long road but worth the trip!

I'm excited. I get my first fill on Friday. It's kinda like going through puperty again only without the zits. It's good to hear from everyone about how easy and painless it was for you. I hope I'm as lucky. I have a surgeon here locally to do the fills as my PS is 500 miles away. I hope the drains come out on Friday too. I'm just a bit sick of dragging them around.

I had my first fill yesterday.  I had some fluid already from surgery. The PS said she had put in 200 cc during surgery.  I was really nervous.  When they pulled my drains, my dh was with me.  After we left he started thinking about it and asked me how they were going to do that.  At that point I just told him I didn't want to know, I would cross that bridge when I came to it.  Of course, he had to go back with me so he could find out how it was done.  It was so simple. No pain during the fills.  It did hurt for a while after just because of the stitches inside where the alloderm is sown to the chest.  She injected 100 cc's  in each.  I can move my right arm better.  I don't know why that is but I am happy about it.  I guess it is just always pleasant to come across a procedure that is not so painful.  Okay, we can do this.

It is terrific that there isn't any pain involved in the fills.

You're right, we can do it.

Hi all,  Glad to read this post and find out that the fills don't hurt.  I have a TE and due for my first fill Sept 8.  Can someone please explain how they do it... I have this magnetic blue thing that apparently picks up the needle or something inside.   Surely the needle into the non breast/expander must hurt?

Would love some reassurance from you lovely ladies that are one step ahead of me.

Do all you ladies with TE have a lump just under your armpit towards the back...my nurse says some of it should disappear when the fills are completed but otherwise it will be there for life as it was part of your breast muscle which is no longer connect to the breast that was taken off.  Am I correct on this.

Hi,

Are you all doing Alloderm?  Just curious.  I'm going through the traditional route, TE, saline fills, etc.

Thanks.

Brenda--I'm with you, TE's and saline fills. I was supposed to have my first fills yesterday afternoon, but my fill-in surgeon(pardon the pun) who was to do the fill needed to talk with my PS and he had alredy left the office for the day. Now it will be Tuesday when I enter puberty. While I was in her office though, she removed one of my drains. Woo Hoo, half liberated.

Now I'm looking forward to Tuesday.

Yeah--The first fill is now history and I'm growing little mounds. I am no longer pre-pubesient.Wink Bad news--I'm still dragging the last drain around. This is on my old radiated side and it takes a while for the fluid to find somewhere unscarred to go. Now I'm shooting for Monday.

For anyone still facing this first step--painless. She stuck me with a little lidacaine just to make sure. I was a tad uncomfortable last night and took a muscle relaxer because the pecs and other muscles transplanted or otherwise fooled with were giving me a some unvoluntary contractions or spasms or somethin. The muschle relaxer worked and I slept like sleeping beauty.

Good luck to all, Bobbi

brunettesrule, for me they didn't put any lidocaine in before the fills but the skin has limited sensation due to the cut nerves from the mast and my doctor uses the smallest butterfly needle. My surgeon uses a magnetic 'stud' finder to locate the position of the port in the expander and marked with 4 dots around the port, he cleans the area with benadine. Then he pushes the needle into the port and slowly injects the saline into the expander. I did have a little bit of sensation when he put the needle in but no more than when I prick my finger when I am quilting.
About the lump behind the armpit, my ps said that it was some fat that the breast tissue hid, he did a little lypo on me during my exchange to get rid of it.

My PS missed my "dead spot" by about 1 cm.....ouch did that hurt when he stuck the needle in and filled me with 50cc.  Next time I'm gonna ask him to move the needle across a bit...lol.

I had my TE replaced in July with silicone implant.  That surgery was really a piece of cake. No pain at all.  That part is  the good news!  I went kayaking 10 days later!

When I had the bandages taken off 2 weeks later, though, I cried the whole way home that day. I guess I secretly thought I would get my breast back again, and of course I didn't and that was difficult seeing that scar.  The TE press the mastectomy scar out smooth from the inside-out so that it becomes flat and barely even noticible in a few months. But when they replace it, for instance my fills came to a total of 700ccs but the silicone implant is only 435 cc's and then you are left with a scar (a new scar) all over again. That was hard to see the first time.  I also never really realized that the numbness from a mastectomy lasts a lifetime.  No nipple, no feeling,, no erogenous zone, and no natural droop - it kind of sits there like a hamburger bun, fills my bra cup well, but it most certainly is not my breast as I once knew it.  I suppose it will take years before I stop mourning that loss.  Anybody else deal with those feelings too?

Hi Koryn,

I'm still in the fills stage with one or two more to go (had to cancel two appts so I'm behind where I should be by now) so haven't yet experienced what you have.

I'm so surprised by a new scar???  Thought the existing scar is used to insert the implant, no?  About 17" of my chest was cut with mastectomy and now another scar???  Oh, am not prepared for that!

Mourning the loss of our breasts is not unusual.  I think most of us feel the same.

Hugs to you,
