Just a quick questions ladies---is it a given that you can't have saline implants if you've had radiation to the chest wall? Thanks! Katiejane

Having some kind of flap surgery, then TE's, make it possible to have any kind of implant. I'm going through the process now. My radiation was 15 years ago. Bobbi |

No, it is not true. The radiation may make the skin tighter, it is the radiation to the skin that causes the problems, if there were to be any. If the skin does not stretch, you may have to use a flap surgery, but manmy of us have had saline or silicone after rads. JUDY JUDY

I am having a terrible time with my reconstruction. I have been going through recon surgerys for 2 years now. I had 30 rad treatments. Then about 6 months later had TE and then 1 surgery for the silicone implants and then had a 2nd to exchange the silicon imp. due to being uneven. The radiatied side has never looked even close to good. My PS had to do a Lat flap and even with that it looks horrible. on sept.22nd this year I went in again and they took out the radiated side implant and cleaned out scar tissue and repalced with TE AGAIN to see if that would help. I'm pretty full now and still have alot of pain. I have a large painful band along the botton of my breast and then an indentation on my breast where the skin transfer was done. It's obvious in a shirt my breast is funny looking and the pain is so bad I can't wear a good bra to hide it. I asked my PS about the Tram flap thinking then they would have more skin to work with but she doesn't think it's necessary to rush into that major of a surgery. ??? I'm thinking that's my only alternative. I'm also thinking about getting a second opinion. Although I do love my PS I'm afraid that she may not be suggesting the Tram because that's not her specialty. What do I do????
