I will be getting my exchange in a few weeks. I was wondering, how much time do I need off of work??  What did most people take off??  My work is not being very cooperative, and all my time is used up from the double masectomy & chemo.    What do you all think is enough time to heal after exchange??  Also did everyone that had the exchange have those drainage tubes like after the masectomy??   I sure hope not....Thank-you all for your help.......Tanya

Tanya,  The exchange for me was so much easier ( I had a single mx).  I was home from surgery by lunch time on a Thursday, and I went back to work on Tuesday, would have been Monday..but the anesthesia did not sit well with me  this time. Tylenol was all needed after the first night.  No drains for me, Yeah! Good luck.

Tanya,

I had bimx with te's the end of April.  Sept 21 I had my exchange and it was very easy for me.  There were no drains and little pain.  Surgery was at 8:30 and I was home by noon.  If I had a desk job I could have gone back to work the next week but I am a nanny so no lifting for 3 weeks. It will depend on the type of job you do.  You will need to limit the overhead motion as with mx.

Good Luck,

Tanya

I took a week off (hairstylist) and I had drains from Monday til Friday.  I walked Race for the Cure 3.1 miles that Saturday.  The amount of time off work depends on the kind of work you do.  If you sit at a desk using a computer then you could go back to work a lot sooner than someone who does lifting with their job.

Don't deny the diagnosis, but defy the verdict.........

I'm so glad I found this thread.  My exchange is next Friday.  I'm lucky enough to work from home but was still wondering if I was pushing it to think I'd be able to work the following Monday.  Looks like I should be ok.

I wonder why some get drains and others don't?  My PS said I won't be getting them.  Hallelujah!  The only real pain I remember from double mx was having the damn things pulled...

Seems like everyone's situation is a bit different. I had my exchange Friday. My PS wrote me off for 4 weeks. No driving for 3 weeks. I'm worried about work so he may reconsider at my post op. I know he is conservative but I must do what he says. No drains. He did a lot of internal stitching on my non cancer side to make it symmetrical with the cancer side. My bi-lat was over a year ago.
