What are the odds? I find it so hard to believe that every woman in our family but one has been diagnosed with breast cancer. But the one, me 46 is having a biopsy this week. What do you think? I definitely will get gene testing. Where do I do that? Who do I see? I have a million questions. I was hoping it had stopped with 3 members of our family but NO it is invading us rapidly.

The person to speak to would be a genetic counselor. Also, hoping for b9 results for your biopsy. Let us know what happens, either way. And best of luck to you, your mother, and you sisters. Leah Diagnosis: 11/3/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage IIb, Grade 3, 6/17 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Good luck to you. I know how it is when your family has been hit so hard. My Mother died of it at 44. Grandmother had it too. 1st cousin at 35 and I have it too, 44. I am BRCA neg but my cousin was positive. I am very scared for my little daughter. I sure hope your biopsy is negative. Good Morning, The breast biopsy I had last week was benign. The only troubling thing is this is not the spot they found in the MRI. This was another one. They are going to wait till January to do a repeat MRI and ultrasound. The Radiologist did not want to do MRI guided biopsy if he didn't have to because it is in a hard to get to location. He said two months would not hurt us to wait because it is so small. It makes sense but still when we are told to act fast and then they tell you wait two months that is a little scary. But, he did say do not go longer than two months. I do not know what anyone thinks of this but I feel stuck right now. I am a little more confident though in the doctors now. Any advice will help. And, I will definitely look for a genetic counselor as well. I did meet a lot of people and I have made some decisions if I do ever have breast cancer that is a strong likelihood. Thanks for your prayers and Keep praying. |

Hi, rmlisegs! Of course, I am not a doctor or anything, but if it were me, I would go to a breast surgeon (or another breast surgeon) and tell him/her that you do not want to wait 2 months but want a biopsy now or other test to find out if it's cancer given your family history. What difference does it make to do the same procedure now or in two months? It will still be hard to get at in two months, no? Or are they waiting for it to be so big it could spread? Cancer can be slow growing, but I know I would be nervous for two months until I heard the words "benign." And I'd rather deal with DCIS than Invasive cancer, stage 1 or higher. Again, totally my opinion as I am not a medical professional. Do what your gut feels and be your own advocate. :) Hugs! ~Cake (is always great!) 5 cm DCIS w/several microinvasions, hence the Stage 1
