Liz,

Thanks for the reply.

The surgeon's office measured the tumor on the ultrasound as around 2 cm so the cases do sound similar.

As of now, he is recommending a lumpectomy followed by radiation. If possible, he may go for the accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) which is similar to brachytherapy (seeds) used for treating prostate cancer. This is a five day regiment as opposed to 5-6 weeks.

I have a neurological condition (Cerebral Palsy) since birth and therefore may not be a candidate for chemo. He said that only if my Oncotype DX score is very high would he recommend chemo for me. Of course, we won't know that until weeks after surgery.

Tomorrow I'm going for a CT/PET whole body scan and, of course, I'm imagining that they'll find all kinds of metastasis in other parts of my body.

Hello

I'm  Nettie from Scotland

I was diagnosed on 12th Jan and my initial path results were

"poorly diffenentiated invasive ductal carcinoma, (tumour 4mm - deeper than it is wide), high grade er neg, pr neg" I have now hade sentinal node biopsy which gave 2 out of 5 nodes involved (the initial ultrasound showed then to be clear). I still have not been told definitavly of my HER2 status.

I started chemo (FEC) on 2th Feb, with jabs to boost my immune system.

Can ANYONE enlighten me about the possibility of triple neg given the dx I have given above????

With the most grateful thanks....

Nettie

Hello,

I just got my Surgical Pathology Report and there are several thing I don't understand.( I tried to contact the DRs Office first)

type is IDC

Size is 1.2

Tumor Grade is 5/9 I thought this was a 1-3

nodes  5 modes negative H&E and IHC

ER     97% Strong (this means I am positive  for ER)

PR     38% Weak (what dose this mean)

HER-2-NEU    1+ (NOT OVER-EXPRESSED)

prev specimen   core biopsy IHC ER 80% PR 3%

stage     PT1c N0(i) (Stage l)   (what does the P stand for)

I have tried to look up the information on line but I keep hitting a brick wall.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about the p53, as I don't have any reference to that in my path reports at all; however, the ki 67 score of 11 is considered "borderline" on my report.  Low is less than 10 - borderline is 10.25 and higher up to 19 and 20 or more is considered high.  Sounds good to me, as my ki is 61.  Also want to say that on my biopsy path my ki 67 is 47, but on my final re-excision for clean margin path report states ki 67 is 61.

I have been put on this frightening journey against my will, but I do not have to travel it alone.

Received pathology report.

Here it is:

Estrogen receptor positive (stains 80% of tumor cel nuclei)

Progresterine receptor positive (Stains 70% of tumor cell in nuclei

Low prolifera capacity (5% of tumor cell nuclei)

Lack of HER-2NUE gene amplification (Her-2NEU stain shows 0 our of 3+ staining)

Come on experts, give me some advice. Doctor said this was all good.

I must be very lucky, because my doctor explained my pathology report to me (and he made notes for me, too!) in great detail.  By the time I got out of his office, I felt like a booby expert. Ask your doctor all of the questions... point to the page and say, "What does this mean?"  The internet is great for discussion groups and some research but your doctor should be the source of your information.

I had a mastectomy on Aug7th.  I went to my surgeon's office today to have my staples removed and because he wasn't there (on vacation) his partner saw me.

I was told this morning that my path report was not ready yet but when I arrived for my appt the surgeon had it.

I'm not really sure what it all means and because the surgeon was doing double duty he didn't really explain it to me.  He did say that he was going to recommend that I be referred to an oncologist.

Here is the jist of the report:

Invasive Mammary Carcima, Ductal

Tumour Dimension 3.5 cm

Ductal Carcinoma in Situ, High Grade with Comedonecrosis - less than 5% of tumour mass

Histologic Grade of Invasive Carcinoma - 3/3 - Nottingham Score 9/9

Vascual Space Invasion - Identified - No involvement of Dermal Lymphatics

Surgical Margins - Negative for Malignancy

Lymph node status - 1/5 Lymph Nodes show Metastatic Adenocarcinoma with Extracapsular extension

Small Satellite Foci of Infiltrating Carcinoma are present

Estrogen Receptor Status - Positive - Allred Score 8

Progestrone Receptor Status - Positive - Allred Score 7

Her2/Neu Overexpression status by C-ERB Immunohistochemistry Negative

Tumour Stage T2 N1a

Just a note on my path report - it wasn't obvious to me until it was explained to me yesterday by the BS.

My tumour was 5.8 cm.  I thought it was only 3.5 cm as per the report but that was the size that was left in my breast tissue.  The 2.3 cm that was excised in the biopsy was part of that original tumour and so the total is the combined size of both "pieces".

I just thought I'd put that out there for those of you that have similiar pathology reports or have had partial lumpectomies/biopsies and then mastectomies.
