I was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma. I had a few surgeries so my next step is to get my port and start chemo. At first I was ready to tackle it all, but now I have had too much time to think and am edgy about it all. Oh, I also have to see a heart doctor to make sure I can take the chemo my oncologist thinks will be the ones for me. Any information is welcome. I will be starting with Adriamycin.
Thanks for this site, too bad we have to be here.

Hi Sarah,

Sorry you've had to join our club. Check out the chemo threads for heads-up info on how to prepare for chemo and some of what you might experience. Each month, someone will start a thread for the women starting chemo that month. It's great to have the help and support of other women having similar tx at the same time. Do you have an idea of when you'll be starting chemo?

Do you have a particular heart issue or is your onc just being cautious? One of the routine tests I had prior to chemo was a MUGA which helps check heart function. I had adriamycin along with cytoxin for 4 cycles. Now, I'm doing Taxotere.

It's normal to be edgy. It's a lot to process in a relatively short amount of time. It does get a bit easier once you start chemo and have an idea of what to expect.

Welcome and Best Wishes,

Cynthia

Don't worry - the monitoring of the heart is part of preparing for the chemo. I am a Locally Advanced Stage IIIC. Just took my 9th chemo of Adriamycin last week, getting ready for the 10th. I am on Adriamycin once a week for 24 weeks and Cytoxin daily for 15 weeks, then will go on something else to finish it out. Adriamycin can cause heart problems and with the cath so close to the heart, it is a part of the screening for chemo to check the heart function. So sorry you had to join us, but hang in there - this is a very helpful and supportive board!

Welcome Sarah - and sorry you have to join us. Sounds like you are just going for a MUGA which is standard. I am currently finishing up with Adriamycin and Cytoxan.

There is a forum for gals with lobular cancer (like me) so make sure you introduce yourself over there. A great group of ladies.

Also, make sure you join a thread for ladies starting chemo the same time as you (under the chemo forum). This will be very helpful for you.

Best wishes.

Hi Cynthia,
Thanks for the information and your reply. I had heart failure in Oct. 2000, but my tests last yr looked good. I am going to check and make sure my heart doctor thinks it will be okay for me to take Adriamycin now. If he gives the okay I will take that first and then follow up with Cytoxan and Taxol. My oncologist just has some concerns she wants to rule out first. I was dx'ed in May, I am Stage 3a N1 Estrogen Pos.
Sorry you have to be in this group too. Hope you are doing as well as you can with your treatments.
Take Care,
Sarah

Thanks Cynthia, I was wanting to hear that some others are doing well with Adriamycin. It makes me feel better when I know as much as I can. Seems you are making it through it all. I am pretty tough so I am ready to fight and keep going too.
Take Care,
Sarah

Hi Connie,
Thanks for the information about the other places to check in with here. I plan to be a regular, too bad any of us has to be here, but it is better than being alone.
Well Wishs for You,
Sarah
