Topic: Just diagnosed, hunting for specialists (OKC area)

Hello,

I'm new here. I've been diagnosed (2 weeks ago) with invasive malignant carcinoma in the right breast. 2 tumors.My dr referred me to a surgeon who has advised a mastectomy. I'm looking for a) a 2nd opinion from a surgeon that specializes in BC and b) an oncologist - I havent seen one yet, haven't been referred to one yet, and am wondering why. 

I live in the larger Oklahoma City area and am wondering how to find an oncologist, a surgeon and a reconstructive surgeon here. Who *should* I see first? A friend says I *must* see an oncologist first because of course a surgeon wants to cut. 

I'm new in this area and don't know drs. In my town there is only 1 oncologist, and my dr says there are only 2 surgeons she'd be comfortable with. I've heard that people travel to Oklahoma City for major medical and surgical issues. 

I've also heard that the U of Oklahoma Cancer Center is good. I'm trying to identify an oncologist there. I've been referred to one, but have issues with some of his practices. 

What do I DO? I'm told I need to hurry, but I don't know where to go. Meantime I'm sick of gettign advice about what to eat and what not to eat, what expensive supplements to take, and how to be happy. I just need healthcare providers!
