Topic: Help, IDC, Surgery Tomorrow

Greetings sisters,
Was diagnosed (finally!) 6/23 with IDC and DCIS both in different quadrants after large excisional biopsy. Margins were not clean so we are going with unilateral Mastectomy of the right breast. Sentinel nodes will be biopsied in surgery to determine if we can save the remaining nodes.
I have opted for NO reconstruction...ever..asking my BS to make it as flat and clean as possible. Having some major anxiety attacks now...I thought I was sure about this decision, I´ve been pretty strong and focused so far. But I just can´t help but think what if I hate it! I´m sure I would hate either decision as how can we not..but I really think I will feel better being done with any future surgeries and not having anything foreign in my body.
I need some encouragement, and some words of hope that someday I will learn to live with this decision and this new form.

You can always do reconstruction in the future. I've decided no reconstruction for now. I'm ok with a presthesis. Do you realize we are now officially Amazon Warriors?? Hi, I had rt mastectomy and sounded just like you, did not want any reconstruction at all, this was in 2004 but I got so sick of being lopsided, never looking ok in clothes, hated the weight and sweating of the prosthesis. Finally had reconstruction in 2007 and it is the best thing I have ever done. If I had it to do again I would either have both removed and be flat or do what I did, give myself healing time and then reconstruct. I can't believe how much better I feel about my self now that the girls are the same size. Lots smaller than the originals but I like them better. It is such a personal decision.
