Hello to all of you present and future:
After two surgeries, numerous test, 4 rounds of AC, 12 rounds of Taxol/herceptin, and 1 year of Herceptin, I am finally done.
I want to come back here and post this for any new woman that comes aboard, to tell you that I was very scared one and half year ago, and I did it" " I am a survivor" and you will also. I want to take moment to reflect on my cancer journey experience and thank God for everything and the love and support that I have received from this community.
Please if you are diagnosed do not hesitate to ask questions, and most of of all keep a positive attitude, because life is beautiful.
Love you all and thank you again.

I think it's important for newcomers to be able to read about the success stories. When we first hear, many of us only focus on all the negative things that could happen. In reality, it's a tough road but breast cancer is so different today than only a few years ago. When I first came to these boards, I was petrified. Thanks to people like you, I got answers, advice and confidence. Thank you. |

Hi, Angie!!! It's otter! I am so glad to hear that you've finally finished your Herceptin treatments. It really does feel good to be done with "chemo". I am a year into my 5 years of Arimidex, so even that feels like progress. Is that cute, curly, blonde head in that avatar really you? :) Your hair has come back so nicely. Mine is straightening out--I've had my hairdresser snip off the ends 3 times so far (in the past year), because I wanted the tight, curly-curls gone. I do like the waves, though; it's a nice change from my lifetime of stick-straight hair. I'll keep the waves as long as I can. It's good to hear from you, and see that you are doing well. Hugs... otter Dx 1/14/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/3 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- |

Hello, Swimangel: I am on Femara, she will be my friend for the next five years, no s/e, Thank God: Hi Anna: I wish you luck in the beginning of your journey, and hope that everything goes well, like it did for me. To be very honest with you, the hair situation, never really bother me, I just kept a positive thinking that it was coming back, and I just had fun, with scarfs, makeups, earrings, and I kept myself very busy, and push away from me the negative people. Anna and to anyone else, please feel free to ask anything that I might be able to share. Otter: It is so good to hear from you also, and yes this is my hair, I now have even more, I will post another picure soon, "Girl" I now have more hair than ever, however the underarm hair is gone again, which is a good thing, but I was just wondering. Thanks to all of your stories. It has given me such hope and strength during my first few days after diagnosis.(I was diagnosed on July 6th with DCIS and IDC) I have to go see my breast surgeon tomorrow to go over the pathology report and everybody tells me to write down any questions I have. Can anybody give me suggestions on what questions I should ask? I am pretty much in a fog right now. Again, thank you for sharing your success stories. This is an awesome site! |

njdarcy - I was given a list of questions to ask. It is extensive but pick and choose which questions are relevent to you. I plan on bringing a notebook to my appointment next week: 1. What type of cancer? How does this affect treatment options and prognosis? 2. Has my cancer spread to the lymph nodes? 3. What stage is it, and what is the treatment and prognosis? 4. Are any tests needed before treatment? 5. Should I enroll in a clinical trial? 6. What are the side effects and risks of the treatment? 7. How long will the treatment last? 8. Will it be by mouth or I.V? Where will I do it? 9. What should I be doing to get ready? (diet, juicing, etc) 10. Should I donate blood for a blood transfusion? 11. How effective is reconstructive surgery? 12. Pros and cons of doing reconstructive surgery immediately or waiting. 13. What will reconstructive surgery feel like? 14. What lifestyle changes should I make? 15. What are the chances of the cancer coming back? What will we do if it does? 16. Will I go into menopause as a result of all this? 17. How will I follow-up? Good luck! |

Angie, I just signed on tonight, and yours was the first message I read! What an upbeat, wonderful message to find! Isn't it great to know you are DONE???!!!!! I, too, finished a little while ago. Never thought I could do it. Never thought I'd even live to see this day. But God had different plans, saw me through it all, and here I am! I agree, I think everyone just starting out on this journey needs to hear from us at the end of the path. I, too, am here for anyone who needs a shoulder, a hand to hold, etc. Thanks, Angie, for a wonderful note! Hello, Nelia congratulations also on finishing your treatment, yes I agree with you 100%, it is so important for newly diagnosed woman to see our success stories and to understand that we have done it and they can also.
