I just came back from my surgical check-up.  My core biopsy and sentinal lymph node pathology report was in.  Although it IS cancer, it sounds pretty good:

Core biopsy of the left breast mass:  mucinous (colloid) carcinoma of the breast, low grade

Sentinal node, left axilla:  sentinal nodes are negative for metastatic carcinoma on H&E and immunoperoxidase pancytokeratin staining.

Comments:  Tumor marker studies are pending.  The largest single length of tumor in a core biopsy is .9 cm.  The actual tumor size is uncertain.  Judging by the biopsy findings, the tumor is categorized as pT1, pN0, pMX

If you know ANY information, PLEASE post here.  I have an appointment with my oncologist on Thursday but as you know, waiting is torture!!!

Hi Sherri,

That does sound good.  My cancer was considered Stage 1.  My tumor was 1.8 cm and node negative.  Looks like you may be Stage 1 also but the oncologist will tell you for sure.   I'm sure someone will respond with an answer to pT1,pNO, pMX.  I don't know what that means.  Did they talk to you about the OncoTypeDX test?  Because your cancer is small and is node negative, you should be a candidate for that test.  It helps the oncologist decide whether chemo will help protect you from reoccurance.  Years ago every women got chemo no matter what stage the cancer was but now they know that certain cancers do not require it.  They may have already ordered it and that may be what they are waiting for when they say about tumor markers.

Good luck on Thurs. and keep us posted.

I just read that you are stage 2.  Still early and the OncoType would apply.

Dear Sherri,

You are Stage I. Who told you Stage II and 3cm?

T1 and 3cm do not make sense.  Low grade is good.  Mucinous has an excellent prognosis especially if the ducts are not involved.  Did they do a sentinel node biopsy with a core biopsy?  Usually that is done with lumpectomy.

Hi Slv..  When I had my core biopsy the path report said I had a 4.8 cm mass, no node mx.  I was told I would need a mastectomy but the good news was that there was no node invovlement.  When I went in for the left breast mast and SN biopsy, the mass turned out to be 5.2 cm and tho there was not tumor in the SN it did culture out for cancer cells.  So they went back in the following week and removed a cluster of 17 more nodes and one was found to have positive growth of cancer cells.  So all totaled I had 18 nodes removed with 2 being positive for cells tho there were no tumors in the nodes.
