Hi All,

Is there anyone out there have recommendation of good breast cancer centers or doctors in NY area? I know the best choice is Sloan Kettering, but they are also famous of the long wait. I'm just wondering if any of you has good/bad experience with other cancer centers? Thanks.

Best,

yy

so sorry to hear that you were just diagnosed. i had my surgery and will begin radiation at beth israel philips ambulatory center in union square. the location is really convenient for me. i just started seeing a medical oncologist at nyu. i've had good experiences with both and would highly recommend either location. nyu is an nci, beth israel is not. pm me if you'd like more information about the doctors i've seen.

I used Sloan Kettering.  I know a few women recently have posted about long waits, but I was seen right away, last year.  I  received my biopsy results on a Friday, p.m.  Called an onc (on monday morning),I had used at Sloan (this was my 2nd cancer, and I was not treated there, just went to an onc there for a 2nd opinion), told her I was just diagnosed and needed a surgeon, she gave me the name of a breast surgeon there.  I called that day, and was seen a week later, was in surgery a week after that, with breast surgeon and plastic surgeon. I would try there, maybe , unfortunately for all these women, it was a busy time.

I started with Sloan but was very unhappy. I switched to North Shore LIJ and have been happy there,. Good luck! I wish you strength in your fight

There are several high risk programs and excellent cancer centers in NYC other than MSKCC. NYU and NY Cornell/Columbia both have great reputations. I am very satisfied with the personalized high quality care of NYU Cancer Center, an NCI designated cancer center. NYU is also a magnet center of excellence.

I put together my own hodge podge of treatment providers based on my schedule. I used Nyack Hospital for surgery and oncology because it is close to home. They have a breast center, but I chose to pick my drs individually based on recommendations from other patients. As it turned out, the ones I picked are part of the breast center.

When it came to radiation, though, I knew it would have to be some place close to work since I would have to go everyday either before or after, and my commuter bus schedule didn't allow me to leave later from home (or get home early). I chose NYU Cancer Center and was very satisfied with their treatment. They also gave me a referral to Rusk at NYU for physical therapy.

My final decision on a plastic surgeon will be someone in NYC, as there isn't any in my local area that has extensive experience doing DIEP flaps.

While I'm all for breast centers, don't be afraid to make your choices for treatment based on recommendations even if the doctor is not part of the breast center you started out at.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

I can speak extremely highly for NYU's clinical cancer center.  I have found everything to be well coordinated, professional and pleasant (dare I say pleasant?)  I hope all goes well for you.
