Hello all my crazy Canucks! Ladies....we need you all to put your names on our new role call list here. Being still a relative newcomer I feel it is important to be able to find other women from canada in one place. For newcomers it is somewhere they can come to find someone they need to ask a made in canada only question. Our Canadian threads are getting old and tired and seldom used so we are all scattered, hopefully we can start some new ones especially for resources that we may need or are looking for. This is the kind of info we are lacking and really need. So can we rise to the challenge and join hands coast to coast to share our wealth of knowledge to pass on to others and share??? This thread will be our role call, so join me and take my hand.

Oops, I accidentally removed this thread from my favourite topics
. I wondered why it was so quiet around here. I have just skimmed the last three pages, it sounds like a lot has been going on. So, in a nutshell: Welcome to all the newbies, congrats to all who have finished treatment, gotten through surgery and have been given good news. For those of you who have been having a tough time, I hope that things get better soon.
Happy Canada Day!

She goes for her regular excercise and massage session but has been advised to get a compression bra/garment as well..anyone here with similar experience. Would any of u know where i can get hold of this, ie would it be places like shoppers drug mart, london drugs or any place better..available locally..which would be better..?

I'm not sure about places in Vancouver but Shoppers does have a Home Health branch and they have sites all around. You can get the garments there. Additionally, it would be worthwhile to ask at the hospital or the lymphedema clinic if they have a list of vendors. That's what I did. And they had quite a few with good recommendations.

roberta, I didn't have clean margins for my lumpectomy and when it came back as cancer I just said "take them both off" and I did, 6 days later!! My tumour was at 6 o'clock right over my heart at the chest wall and I wanted to avoid radiation and/or chemo. I managed to avoid both! You have some thinking to do. Sometimes they will try again to get clean margins, but at that point, too much of the breast is gone anyway. It depends on the placement of the tumour. Good luck!

Hi best friend, any medical supply place should do but the BC Lymphedema Association webpage does list some businesses that belong to that association. (I'm a member). I had a sleeve fitted two years ago and saw compression bras in the shop at that time. PM me if you have any questions.

cher56, how awful. Sounds like you have been through the wringer.
ro-berta I didn't have clean margins after my initial surgery, so they booked a re-excision to get the rest. My margins were clear after that, but I don't have much breast left. As a result, I opted to have a mastectomy rather than radiation/Tamoxifen. It really depends on your situation. Some people are clear after the first try!

Good evening ladies enjoying any fireworks ( outside I mean hahaha) Thanx for the input. My tumor is 4 o,clock by chest wall. I had a previous mass there a couple of years ago and had a lumpectomy then but was shooting " blanks" prior to that I have had a previous excission in a different spot but on same breast and another lumpec. also. Maybee I should of opted for a mas. then but my theory was keep this boob as long as possible so it doesn,t travel to my left boob which i have also grown attached to more so, hahaha. ( I know it is hard to believe at this momement but I am a relatively intellegent person. hahaha. Anyhow I have decided to go "Off with the head approach' if it comes back unclear , not that there will be much left to go hahaha. Also I have to take in consideration my allergies to all antibiotics, ie: my least chance of getting infections ect.ect. So i picked the little by little road. I am still thinking about whether or not to go with the rads, I will see and make a decission when i talk to the onc. So now that I have thought aloud thanx for everyones patience things always look different in black and white hahaha. thanx.

No fireworks here - but I did enjoy a Sunday night summer concert at the beach. Every Sunday throughout the summer there is a free concert with a different band playing. I had the oncotype dx test done in February -- my surgery was in January -- my stage 2, grade IIb and had no lymph node involvement. The MO wanted me to agree to the oncotype text and a sample of tissue was sent to the states. I believe he said it cost $500 for testing and OHIP paid. The company has a Patent on it and no one else can do that type of testing so the tissue samples have to be sent to the states. I was in a gray area and this would determine chemo or no chemo. Up until 2 or 3 years ago, chemo would have been an automatic. Also the fact that I was Er+ and Pr+. It took 2 weeks to get the results from the states once I agreed to them being sent.
