Hello all my crazy Canucks! Ladies....we need you all to put your names on our new role call list here. Being still a relative newcomer I feel it is important to be able to find other women from canada in one place. For newcomers it is somewhere they can come to find someone they need to ask a made in canada only question. Our Canadian threads are getting old and tired and seldom used so we are all scattered, hopefully we can start some new ones especially for resources that we may need or are looking for. This is the kind of info we are lacking and really need. So can we rise to the challenge and join hands coast to coast to share our wealth of knowledge to pass on to others and share??? This thread will be our role call, so join me and take my hand.

Welcome.  It's such a hard decision but I can appreciate why you're contemplating a BMX for sure.  I had an MX, had to do chemo but no rads, on herceptin now until December/January and Tamoxifen.  With every pathology so unique, so will the course of TX.

Cher: I am sorry that you're going through he**.  It does not sound great and 6 months is a long recovery time.  Could you still get a second opinion?  Maybe look into a naturalpath who might be able to shed some light on healing?  I wish I had the answer for you.

Jil:  I had a double mastectomy (my choice) and needed chemo but not rads.  I was 33 when diagnosed so even before my surgery I was told I'd need chemo just because of my age.  But I was also told that I would likely need rads but when I met with the radiologist he said no.  I did get clear margins with my left side (cancer side) and they found nothing in the right side.  It's a hard choice forsure but for me I just wanted the cancer out and I knew the if I left a breast then I'd be worried sick.  It was the right choice for me.

Cher, we posted at the same time so I missed your post. I hope you have been seen since yesterday as that all didn't sound very good!! Infections can move very quickly through your blood stream. You probably need to see an infection specialist to find out exactly what the infection is. By now, treating it blindly might waste precious time that you need antibiotics for!! Please keep us posted.

It's been a while since I posted.  I had my lumpectomy April 2011, followed  by lymph nodes removal (six out of 18 had cancer) and then I got a terrible infection, which kicked up fybromyalgia, which I live with to this day (I'm on Lyrica, the first pain med which has worked.).  I was on anti-B's both by mouth and intravenously, and then had 6 sessions chemo, and 15 of rads. I'm now on Letrozole and a clinical trial of Metformin. During all this, the affected breast was red, hot and sore and I bugged everyone who'd stand still long enough. Finally my FD gave me more anti-B's this May and it appeared to clear up. Now it's hot and sore sometimes, especially if I wear a bra. Has anyone else had this long a healing time? I know this is small potatoes compared to those of you who are just beginning your cancer journey, but I just wondered.

Kudos to all of you wonderful ladies going through this and taking time to reach out for info. The more we have, the better armed we are for the battle!

ro-berta -- Good to see you on here. I hope yours went well!

lindsay72, I had a very long healing time after my last infection, and I still have a red patch of skin from an additional infection that won't completely heal. My breast is always sore and they chalk it up to scar tissue. But, if yours is red/hot, I would be asking too. Hopefully someone can offer you more info than I can!

Is anyone on metformin?  I am part of a clinical trial and having lots of tummy issues with it, fatigue and very little energy.  It settled down a bit after my body got use to the 1 dose a day but since taking the 2 a day it's starting up again and I am having diarrhea and stomach cramps pretty well daily (sorry to be graffic).  Any thoughts?  I would hate the quit the study but can't keep on like this either.

Girls, can I please ask u for your help..have been in a bit of a fix since the start of my mom's treatment...

basically she was diagnosed with brain mets by chance, the doctor she had initially delayed proper diagnosis hence led to the above situation...this doctor was not an oncologist just a general surgeon we were referred to by her GP..

she had immidiate brain surgery, followed by mastectomy, followed by whole brain radiation and then chest wall radition..this was all over by end of december last year..she is now on letrozole

post this she has not had one scan..!! the oncologist who took over my moms case does not find this necessary..he also told us we have no treatment options left after this for brain cancer..which is absolutely not true and i only know this because of this forum...

i told my mom to fix an appointement with her radiologist who agreed for a brain scan and said there is treatment available..which we r in the process of doing now..

we have also asked my mom's current GP (who we changed after the whole mis-diagnosis fiasco) for a second opinion from another oncologist but he refuses to do so and says another referral is not necessary..!

what is one to do..! we r made to feel as if its our fault that my mom is in this sitauation..

I need to know are there any better oncologists/GPs in Vancouver who are more experienced in brain and breast cancer situations..and how can we go about getting hold of them..?

if it was not for this website we would have just followed what our oncologist told us..

pls help if u can ..

Hey girls,

I have missed a lot on this feed.

Jil: I had two surgeries no clear margin. My surgeon said she had to take away my whole breast, since she could not remove a little and then wait for the result all the time, and my onc wanted to start my chemo. In the end, we found this is a good decison based on what the pathologist reported, a third time would most likely still not have the clear margins!

I had chemo but no rads.

Cher:I hope you have been seen and got some answers!

all the best to everyone

Love you all!Laughing

Hi everyone, I need to ask a question.

I have had an expander put in at time of my mastectomy, left side, and have had three fill ups. I currently have 300cc filled. But after this last fill up I have noticed that under my left arm in my arm pit, it feels like its chafing and its rubbing on my expander, it doesn't hurt a lot but it does a little. Is this normal ?

I also wanted to know that I wasn't uncomfortable with the other fill ups  but I am now, I touch the top of my chest around the expander towards the middle of my chest and it is sensitive is this normal ?

I don't want to sound like a whiner  but I don't want to worry needlessly. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Smile

Hi all my fellow Canadians: sorry to meet like this but happy to be able to find you, even though the circumstances are horrible. I would love to join the get together in August, if that's possible. My problem is that I don't drive on the
Highway now, or least at the present time. I am near Broadview and Danforth, which is pretty close to the DVP. Would it be possible to hitch a ride with someone. I only have one F2F support friend (has been through a lot with BC) and feel the need to connect with others as right now my friends, who love me and try so hard to be there for me, can never GET THIS (thankfully) it's just that I'm feeling a little estranged from them at the moment....I do so need women who DO GET IT in my life just now. Hope to here from
Somebody, I hope. Thank you.

Gumshoe..Good luck tomorrow Will be thinking of you.. I was at PS today for my check up.. Asked it he could fix the funky shape my new foob as and if he could make it a little bigger.. He said the only way to make it bigger would be to take implant out, expander back in .. but said there was a lot of rad damage so my skin would most likely not stretch enough.. He is going to do some fat grafting to filll in my hollow area under my arm..and indent around top of Foob.. hope to get a nicer shape on my squishy...

Cath..Mine did the underarm thing too.. will most likely feel that way until your exchange.. Also some of my fills were very uncomfortable...some were only a little uncomfortable...

I've got the picc line but have to wait til monday or tuesday for getting on my own with it.

i'm still having lots of swelling where the tunnel/undermining is :( & it's still green. but having times where I'm feeling better. I heard from nurses my BS faxed back answers.. so yes there is a plastics in my future for grafts. sooner if the manual debriding & cleaning doesn't work. now I see her plan of trying to get it to heal this way..but if not she'll get plastics in for consult. I see her on monday. back to sleep for me.

In Oakville we have had several hydro outs too...luckily just for a few seconds at a time...just enough to have to reset microwave and clocks etc. Sweltering here already and it's just 8 am. Supposed to be the hottest day yet!

Good day to just sit here and check out the puter (if the hydro holds)! My fish pond is evaporating so quickly...forever having to top it off. It's a wonder the fish aren't boiling in it. Lucky people with pools!
