Hello all my crazy Canucks! Ladies....we need you all to put your names on our new role call list here. Being still a relative newcomer I feel it is important to be able to find other women from canada in one place. For newcomers it is somewhere they can come to find someone they need to ask a made in canada only question. Our Canadian threads are getting old and tired and seldom used so we are all scattered, hopefully we can start some new ones especially for resources that we may need or are looking for. This is the kind of info we are lacking and really need. So can we rise to the challenge and join hands coast to coast to share our wealth of knowledge to pass on to others and share??? This thread will be our role call, so join me and take my hand.

I have made a reservation for all who are able to join us on Friday, November 6 at 5:30 .... It is at The Keg at 4841 Yonge Street (on the NE corner) in the Sheppard Centre. There is underground parking and their web site says that parking will be validated as well. The reservation is under the name "Helen" and their phone number is 416-225-2841. I know some can't join us until after 6 but we won't be ordering dinner before everyone arrives. If you haven't yet indicated that you are joining us please let me know so that I can update the reservation.

Have any of you Ontarians heard anything about how wide spread H1N1 is here? More than 10% of the kids at my kid's school were absent today because of flu like symptoms. I don't know if I should send my kids to school or not. Seems kind of mean not to as they are having fun doing lots of Halloween activities. I'm nine weeks out of chemo, and I'm not sure if I'd be considered imuno-supressed right now.

My doctor says she is swamped with people who 'think' they have it.  She told me I WILL KNOW if I have it.  I am planning to get the vaccination.  I have lung issues and she is strongly urging me to do so.

I spoke to my onc about the regular flu vaccine and H1N1 and she said it was up to me.  Protocol says yes since I am coming to the hospital for chemo.  I told her I was taking the subway and working at a university with all those germs last year (some students got H1N1) and with my obsessive hand washing I was fine.  So I'm skipping it.  I have her blessing.  She thinks the media is overplaying the whole flu thing.

But with lung problems (i.e., Mom with her asthma and you PIP) it is a good idea.  If I had lung mets I would get it too.

Does anyone know when the HINI & regular flu shots will be available in Ontario. In years past, the flu shot was always ready for the first week in November. It seems that this round of flu shots are for people 65+ and I'm not sure when the rest of us will get it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll call my GP today, and set up an apt to get a shot. My oldest daughter (7) has asthma, so I think she is at risk too.

I thought that we should get the H1N1 shot as soon as it's available (this week) ... don't we fall into that higher risk category?

My oncologist recommended the H1N1 and regular flu shot for all of his patients. I said I never had the flu shot before and never had the flu. He said you never had cancer either. Oh, but I did , said I. Oh. . . . yes, - get the shots anyway was his answer.

I found out that by googling the health unit in my area there is information about where the H1N1 clinics are held locally. Our Medical Officer of Health is publicly skeptical and suggests the panic is way bigger than it should be.

Now I will decide whose advice to take.

Yes we do fall into the high risk  file but if you are alergic to eggs or are worried about Mercury you may want to reconsider the shot.

10 days - not too long - I can imagine why you would have mixed emotions about the move - especially arriving just in time for an Ottawa winter. Welcome (almost) home!

Hahahahahaaaa!!!  I won't tell you what happens to me when Blue Dahlia posts with her Jim Morrison avatar -- but I think you can guess....  Hey, can you imagine, everytime you finish a piece of cake - poof, another shows up.  All delicious with zero calories in this fantasy -- maybe with Jim feeding me...
