Some of us will, some of us won't, but it's an ugly beast to try to tackle alone. I think I'd rather have cancer than quit. Sadly, I can't quit cancer. Dunno if I can quit smoking or not, but I just read a study that says smoking (nicotine) interferes with and blocks chemo by 61%.

If I'm gonna have to go through this crap, it darned well better work. I've come to terms with every other aspect of this mess I've been presented with so far. Sometimes with tears, sometimes with humor, sometimes with quiet hugs from hubby. Smoking not so much. I like it. It's my friend, my crutch, my safe harbor in a crazy world. It's killing me. It's time to say good-bye.
My quit date is 1/19/09. My husband will be joining me. Cold turkey for me, patches for him. (I am avoiding more nicotine just as much as I am sugar.)
Anyone out there care to join us?

Jo, my 4 week mark is today, and that last one is still hanging on, too. Yesterday's output was 48cc. This morning, after 12 hours, it was 10, so things are looking up. Here's to both of us getting rid of these STUPID drains ASAP. It's getting hot outside and the drain hose sticking to my skin and...well, you know. Everything about it sucks. BIG time.

Fierro6 - My output this morning was 30cc for 9 hours. If the other times I empty stay the same, I should be at 50ccs today. I empty 4 times a day. Hope you get yours out real soon. It is already hot here and yes, the stupid drain hose does stick to my skin. This does suck big time.

Jo: Did you ask the PS or nurse to tape up where your drain comes out of your body? After mine had been in a while, they were becoming loose. After they taped it up for me, close to my body where it wouldn't move, it felt much better. I had gone in there in such pain, that I was near tears. I told them they HAD to do something! We go through too much other crap to have to walk around in pain. I know it's aggravating. I had my last drain for 6 weeks. Hang in there.

I am finally able to sit down and post. Still have the drain - GR!!! PS thinks Monday will be the day. Not going to hold my breath. I am not at optimistic as he is but then again he knows what he is doing and I hope he proves me wrong. I have already cancelled all the Memorial Day weekend plans I had. Don't want to go if I still have the drain. If it is not ready all I have to do is call and reschedule.
The pain is from the stitch pulling. I can't have it taped to my body since I am very tape sensitive. WIll have to figure out a way to keep it from moving. Found out the large amount of overnight drainage is because I am lying down and the fluid is pooling and into the drain it goe. So, I have decided to sleep in the recliner with my feet up and the back as straight as I can and still get some sleep. At this point, I will do just about whatever I have to so I can get this stupid thing out. It is 4 weeks today.
Can't see the bright side of this. I do keep telling myself this is all going to be worth it in the end. I really want to get on to the next step. I have a bit of revision work left to do.

Dear Jo, so hoping the PS is right and Monday is the day that d*&n drain comes out. I read another post of your's that said the output is lessening, that is such a good sign. I can't imagine how much it hurts since you are unable to tape it, My mom always had trouble tolerating tape, wherever the tape was, no matter what kind, she would get an angry, painful rash. Your PS has so much experience with this, he must be fairly certain if not Monday then very soon. Sending love and healing thoughts to a great woman, Karen

Karen, The output is even less this afternoon. Yipee!!!! Going back to emptying twice a day. I am shooting for Monday. Tomorrow will tell me for sure if the levels continue to go down. YIPPEE Jo, so glad it looks like it is finally coming out, I know what a heartache and pure pain it has been for you. You'll be able to get some really good sleep, and reschedule your Memorial Day plans!!!! Fierro6, it is so good to meet you, I'm so pleased you've joined our wonderful group. I did not have chemo either, I hope you have an easy time with it, and it is as we say "doable". JudiH, it is so nice to have you too, this is just the greatest support group ever. It is great to have new people join us. Especially when they bring words of support and encouragement to our quitters, as you do have already done. Karen

Quick tip - my Canadian bc comrades have said to keep your finger/toes in ice - I don't know if you know this or it is part of the U.S. treatment but there is a reason for it. Make sure you ask about it! Best of luck during your treatment!

Very quiet here today, must be that everyone is out in the beautiful weather, it is 83 here, no wind, low humidity and not a cloud in the sky. Surgery is June 15th at 9:30, he does not seem worried - so I am trying to be the same. They will biopsy it, just to be certain. I do hate that word. Please send calming thoughts my way. hugs, Karen

You guys rock with all that good quit time! Thank you for the warm welcome.
I was supposed to be quitting yesterday and I flaked out. I went for my MRI, and it turns out I am hideously claustrophobic, something one ought to know by age 48 which I did not. I was so shaky for a couple of hours that I bumped my quit date up to today. Today, I slapped on a patch, and so far so good.
Jo, 2 WEEKS your drains have been in? Gah! I haven't had the kind you have, but I was discharged with one in my back, and they're very uncomfortable. I'm glad you're nearly done.
Karen333, my calming thoughts are swirling gently in your direction. You'll know when they get to you, because they will be nice and cool. I hate biopsy also: both the process and the word. Cancer seems to have a lot of infelicitous language surrounding it.
