Have you recently been treated for breast cancer? Do you want to lose weight?  Do you live in the Baton Rouge, LA area? Are you interested in being in a research trial looking at weight loss in Breast Cancer survivors?

If you answered "yes" to the above questions, see the information below:

Overall Goal: To increase cancer survival rates in women with a history of breast cancer by encouraging weight loss through diet and exercise.

How we plan to do this: We are looking for 60 women with a history of breast cancer. Upon entering the study volunteers will be assigned to one of two groups.

  • Group 1 - Volunteers will attend weekly group meetings to help motivate you towards a healthy lifestyle. These meetings will encourage you to lose weight by increasing exercise levels and maintaining a healthy diet. These meetings will occur weekly for six months and will be followed by an additional six months of monthly telephone calls to discuss progress.
  • Group 2 - Volunteers will receive weekly phone calls by trained professionals to help motivate them towards a healthy lifestyle. These phone calls will encourage them to lose weight by increasing exercise levels and maintaining a healthy diet. These conversations will occur weekly for six months.

All study volunteers will receive an additional six months of monthly phone calls and quarterly meetings to discuss their progress.

What's in it for you?:
If you are eligible to participate and enroll in the study, you will be able to receive the results of medical exams, EKGs, lab work, and basic measurements that are collected throughout the study. All of these tests are free of charge to you.
Your participation in this study can help give researchers a better understanding of what to expect after breast cancer. The results of this study may also contribute to larger studies in years to come.
