Hello Ladies! (and perhaps some gents, men get breast cancer too)

I am looking for a respected permanent cosmetic technician/tattoo artist to have my areolas tattooed back on after a double mastectomy. Does anyone know of a reputable person to do this in the Utah area?

Also, is there anyone who has had this done where there was almost no tissue between the skin and the implant wall? I am concerned about infection and implant leakage, since I had to have all of the breast tissue and fat removed in my surgery. I don't have health insurance and am afraid of causing problems with my implants.

Third, I have someone here in the area who says that he can not only do the areola tattoo, but also would like to try a small, round, under-the-skin implant about the size of a pea to create a nipple bump. This is a product like those used in body modification procedures and is medical grade. I WANT a nipple bump and have read that surgically created ones can flatten out. Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this?

Thank you, and bless you all.

Loucinda- There used to be a member on here named FACECRAFTER that helped with recommendations but not sure if she posts anymore.  I think the title of her thread was "3-D Nipple Tattoos".  If she's not on there anymore there may be others who can help you.

Kate,

Thank you for your help!! I will look for her posts and see what I can find. BTW, I like your quote. I know you can get a tee shirt with that on it, and I think it is funny as heck! All the best to you. Smile

Loucinda.....

www.PinkInkProject.com  has listings of artists...I don't think Utah though.....

The someone who wants to implant is a DR??  My assumption would be he would insert the "implant" deeper than a tattoo.......be careful especially if you feel that the skin is too thin even for a tattoo.... I would suggest going to plastic surgeon......

Some nipple recons flatten.....look into 3d nipple tattooing.....creates the illusion of protrusion.

Renee,

I think you are right. I don't want to mess around with anything under the skin at this point. thank you for pointing me in the right direction with PinkProject. I have a few ideas about people that I feel do a really great job, and am now researching prices, distance, etc. I'd rather wait and save up the money to travel to the right artist than settle for someone closer but who doesn't do the kind of work I want. Tattoos are forever. I should know, I have four already. :) Again, thank you so much for the help. Everyone here has been just great!

Loucinda,

It is well worth the trip to Baltimore to see Vinnie Myers.  He does 3D tatts and the results are fantastic.  Mine look amazingly real!

All the best, She

Thank you She!

Everyone seems to have great things to say about Vinnie, and I have to admit that I am very impressed with the photos of his work. Not only is his shading spectacular, but his eye for color and tone it spot on. That makes such a huge difference in how real things look. I am already scouting out ways to make it to see him, and also have heard that he travels a bit so maybe if he is in the Utah area I can cut the travel expenses down.

I am an unemployed student right now (victim of the "new economy") so I may have to get creative, but I am sure it will be worth it. So happy for you that your results were good! That's great! I appreciate you taking the time to drop me a line and let me know how things went for you. It makes a lot of difference in my decision making to actually hear from someone who has been to the same guy I am looking at.

 Blessed be,

Lou

UPDATE: I talked to Vinnie, and it seems that he doesn't make it out here to the Utah area often at all and I was afraid I'd never get to see him. While I was waiting I looked into prosthetic nipples a bit and ended up finding a company about 45 minutes from my house that does custom prosthetics, and for the same price as tatooing. I just about died from excitemement! I ended up getting a lovely set of prosthetics from them instead of the tattos and could not be happier! They look AMAZING and stay on as long as I want them to. The first words out of my girlfriend's mouths when they see them is something to the effect of "Shut the fuuuu...ront door!"

After we finished custom coloring them (I got to direct the coloring process step by step since I was there in the room while it was done) I went into the bathroom, put them on, and then stood there crying like a baby. I finally feel normal again!!!!!!! Ok, so they don't feel real. I don't care. They LOOK totally real and right now that is the best I think I can get unless they find a way to regrow whole breasts from stem cells or something. Don't we all wish. Laughing I am so glad that I did this instead of getting the tattoos or nipple reconstruction. Since appearance is the most important thing to me I am happy, happy, HAPPY!

One drawback, sort of. I suppose it depends on what your "modesty level" is set at. The maker said that they are collapsible since the actual part of the nipple that projects is flexible and air filled. Nuh-uh. Maybe it is because the ones I got have nipps on the larger side and they have a good 1/4 inch projection, but you can see the outline of my nipples under everything except fairly thick padded bras. Not that I mind, to be honest. I have felt terrible about losing my breasts and have felt ugly and totally asexual for ages. To suddenly be able to put my nipples exactly where I want them (perky!) and look like I have flawless, perfect headlights is great!! (Well, perfect as long as I am dressed, at least) But for you non-exhibitionist ladies who prefer not to be the object of attention, you may want to go with a smaller nipple projection. Just sayin.

The picture here is of them after about five days of wearing them, so the edges are lifting just a tiny bit. For the first several days they stay flush to my skin, and I'm oily so that is something.

Fighter, they are really inexpensive!!! Only $300 for the set and that includes glue that will last I swear for at least 2 years. The other ones I priced were about a grand so this is great. Let me know if you want to know where you can get them. The guy who makes them can customize them so that they look as much like your old ones as possible, pictures of your old girls help. He is a sweet little Mormon guy, totally respectful. I just want other people to know there is something out there that even a broke-ass student like me can afford. It has made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in how I feel naked. (And in my sex life! I leave the lights on now. Yay!)
