Hi all.  I didn't expect it to hurt this much, or for the bruise to be almost the size of an index card.

Is this normal?  I am pretty okay about waiting until Monday for the results... although one can never account for subconscious worries. :)  I had the procedure yesterday afternoon, and unfortunately decided to go to work today. I looked like heck after the 3rd hour of teaching. There was no turning back at that point. Thanks for any response related to bruising and time frame for healing.

Hi miadora...I had a lumpectomy and if you had an excisional biopsy..they are basically the same. I had my lumpectomy on October 7th and still have bruising. I had a core bx in the end of Sept and was bruised with that alone. Both may create swelling and discomfort. After my lumpectomy I had several seromas which is actually (I think) blood that forms very hard lumps. I am still sore. Some say that they could go back to work with no problems and others have more discomfort. I am heavy breasted and that alone may cause more discomfort...I am not sure but it feels like it pulls sometimes due to the heaviness. I think that gravity is not on our sideSmile. I would rest if you can..but after an excisional I would expect discomfort, and the bruising is from them removing the problem and tissue surrounding the area. I would think that to be normal.

Good luck with everything. You didn't mention size or anything else. Please let me know how you are doing.

Take care..hope this brought some comfort.

Jeannie

I had a stereotactic biopsy the beginning of July.

I had severe bruising for 4-6 weeks.  I developed a plum (or larger) sized hematoma.  Now, almost 4 months later, the hematoma is almost, but not quite, gone.  It's taken a LONG time to go away but was told there isn't much to be done but let the body reabsorb.

Jeannie and Shappy,  Thank you so much for the information.  I am going to try to put some arnica on the bruise to see if that helps.  I had the core biopsy in Sept, with much less bruising, but it was still not "easy".  I have no idea how much they removed, at this point. I guess I didn't ask how large the area was, or else I "forgot". Yes, I feel the "pull"  despite wearing 2 sport bras, and I am 'medium'.

I hear you re: gravity!  Undecided    I was wondering if my supervisor would accept that as an excuse for staying home. LOL.   " I won't be in today, gravity" .

Anyway, your responses helped my mood, immensely, not the fact that it hurt(s) for everyone, rather, that I am not being overly sensitive.    I will post update.

Mia ( looking for ace bandages before going to work)

Best to you in this journey.

I felt that the arnica helped the bruising dramatically FWIW. For the hematoma I've been using a heat pack and I think that helped.  My pharmacy had a clay one I heat in the microwave and it stays warm a long time,  I've been using that the past couple of weeks.

I'm surprised that you went back to work?  Good for you!!!  My surgeon told me I had to stay off till I saw him post op for a follow up which will be in 2 weeks.  And honestly with all the pain I have had I know I could not have gone back to work... I am a nurse. Good Luck!

Hi mimi - I shouldn't have gone back to work the next day. I work about 20 miles from my home, so once I got there, I figured it was too far to drive home. I felt lousy, looked worse, and by the time the day was over, I felt like I was going to faint.

I see the surgeon tomorrow ( Monday) at 1:45.

I still hate bending over to pick things up... and have tried using an ace bandage.

The good news is that the bruising is fading.  I will let everyone know the biopsy results tomorrow evening. I did not tell a lot of people about having the procedure done - I figured I could bear the subconsious worries without getting mom and family all "worried", etc. :)

Best to you and I hope you get good news!

The biopsy indicated that the mass was benign. I am relieved, of course. I am thankful for all your support, I still haven't personally viewed the incision site... but believe me... I feel it.

Best to all "waiters" and "healers"

Love -

I had a stereotactic biopsy yesterday (11/5).  I had more bleeding than expected, and now have bruising (and possible hematoma?) on the OPPOSITE side of my breast (right breast - biopsy done on the inside of breast - brusing on outside of breast).  Blood backed up and pooled on that side I suppose.  I hate to add a new topic, since this is so similar...   I haven't taken the bandage off yet (tomorrow morning) to see the biopsy site, but it doesn't feel as bad/tender as the opposite side.   (Results next week.)  I iced it for 24 hours, and used heat alternatively for that side especially b/c of that bleeding.  Used heat more exclusively this evening.  I'll keep using heat I guess to help, but.... at what point should I be concerned...or should I?
