Hi All,
Had my armpit lump excised today. Left with some sitches and some pain....Just wondering if any of you actually saw your lump and what it may have looked like. When the nurse showed me what they took out. Mine looked a bit like shrimp or crab meat. I will not be getting my results for 8 to 10 days and I am to say the least pretty scared. I just lost my Mom last August to BC after she put up a good fight for seven years. She was 60 when she died and I have two little ones of my own. I really don't think I have what it takes to beat this if it is what my gut is telling me it is. I always thought malignant lumps would be black??? Mine was solid and orange and white. My surgeon has sent 4 pieces of it off for further examination. What did your lumps look like?
Thanks
Katz

Hey Katz, I had a breast biopsy and I actually saw what was in the plastic jar that they were sending off but it just looked like regular tissue, kind of pink and white in color. I am pretty sure that malignant lumps are not black. At least in all my nursing years I have never seen any that were black, and that would be a total of 27 yrs. I can understand why you would be scared, all of us are while we are waiting on the results, especially with the loss of your mother being so new. I was just diagnosed with BC on 10/22/09 and had surgery on 10/29/09. I am sending you prayers for B9 results. Please keep us posted. And if you ever need to talk just private message me. Hugs Renee

Katz - That is a long time to wait for your results. Call you doctor and he can push up the results. The waiting is the worst! Try to keep busy in the mean time. Hugs! Diagnosis: 10/22/2008, IDC, 2cm, Stage Ib, Grade 3, 0/3 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2- |

Dear Katz, They are usually able to tell if it is cancer immediately thru' frozen section analysis, confirm thru' permanent section analysis and the grade in 2-3 days. Then the ER/PR, KI67 in 2-3 more days. Then HER2 in 2-3 more days. If you are anxious to know the results as they come in, inform your doctor's office and they might honor your request. Onty

Hi Everyone, Thanks for your response. Here it is 9 days later and still not word on results. I went to my GP yesterday and she removed the stitches, noticed that my lymp node was feeling very lumpy and swollen, but told me it was likely due to the biopsy/excision. Which is pretty much in the same area. She told me results are not back yet and she would call as soon as they came in....SO, I called the sugeon's office and the receptionist advised that he was off this week. Geeez. Anyway, I asked her if she could see if the test came back....she does a little search and asks, if he had removed something from my breast. I correct her and say no, a cyst like thing under armpit and she quicky says that it will likely take two weeks. Her question about the breast makes me nervous, It clearly said on my little day surgery chart....removal leison left axillary....nothing about breasts. Sorry guys, to sound like a nut case, but I am going out of my mind and just want to know something. I am driving myself batty googling images of excised lumps and trying to compare them with what mine looked like. Thank you for listening. Mimi, Do you know what type you have yet? |

Oh, that's crazy (the wait, not you!). Someone's looked and read the pathology, it's just a matter of getting your hands on the report. If this was sent to a outside laboratory pathologist it's a tad tricker: you may need to call the lab and fax over a release for the written report. But at 9 days, it's done. If they won't give it to you, they should immediately fax it to your doctor. Your doctor can call and get a verbal reading anytime. If it was sent to a local site, i.e., lab or hospital, then you could drive there, pen in hand and again sign for the report. As long as you wish to know, even without your doctor's (needed) explanation of the findings, you can up the ante and demand the report. Waiting 9, 10 days is ridiculous. No need for you not to know. It cannot be emphasized too strongly that treatment of each patient is a highly individualized matter. (FDA-approved labeling for warfarin (Coumadin) NDA 9-218/5-105)

I actually wondered the same thing as you. I looked at my biopsy sections and wondered if you can tell with the naked eye. I even tried looking on the internet to see if there is some way that malignant tissue looks different, but I found nothing. Mine looked like crab meat as well. Hopefully you will get your results back soon! I am in the process of waiting now too. I was told 2-3 days about three days ago, so I am at work anxiously waiting for a phone call! I'm suprised your results are supposed to take so long! You will be in my thoughts! Let us know!

There is no way to tell by looking at the removed mass with naked eye. You definitely need to get your report before you google stuff up. There are too many unknowns right now. Waiting till you are fully diagnosed is the hardest part. Onty. Lumpectomy 8/2009. Chemo 9/2009 to 2/2010. DD 4AC --> 12T +/- B (ECOG 5103)
