Hi,

Just back from a u/s for what my surgeon thought was an inguinal hernia. Instead, it's a 3 cm lymph node! I guess the next step is bloodwork to determine if there is underlying infection and then biopsy.

I finished treatment (lumpectomy and rads) last December and started Tamox. in January, followed by Zoladex in August.

I highly doubt this enlargement is due to meds.....and I feel absolutely fine! No colds, flu, etc...

I was really hoping for a hernia. Damn.  Now it's back to worry mode....this time, I have promised myself to stay off the internet (Except for here :)    and I intend to keep that promise.

I would really appreciate hearing from others who have had similar groin node issues. 3cm sounds a bit large to me!

Thanks,

Miriam

ANYBODY????

Spoke to my onc. and she's squeezing me in on Monday. Definitely biopsy, it might be open surgical--not sure yet.

I've read that breast cancer doesn't "usually" travel to groin lymph nodes......at this point I don't know what to think, so I will now take a Xanax, my favorite anti-think little helper!

Maybe there's a "Swollen Groin Lymph Node.org" discussion board out there in the Internet's alternate universe....:)

Thanks, anybody!

Miriam,

I'm sorry no one has responded to you yet.  I've never heard of mets to the groin lymph nodes.  The fact that it is so big, I think, speaks to something else far less insidious going on.  Could be just a fluke thing.  Good luck with your followup appt.  I hope, and think, that you will get positive news.  Your post cracked me up.  You are a funny lady.  I'll let you know if I find that alternate universe discussion board.

Hugs

Bobbie

I had an enlarged lymph gland in my groin -  many years ago (in my wild-20's) before BC. I felt fine too - no fevers, chills, etc. My ob/gyn at that time did a pap smear and said I had something going on there - he did cyro-surgery and put me on antibiotics and that took care of the problem. Perhaps it was some kind of STD..........not that I'd wish an STD on anyone - but compared to BC, they look like VERY treatable problems don't you think? Good luck and I'll be sending a prayer that your results are B9.

P.S. Years later (after my 3rd c-section) I had what I thought was another swollen lymph gland in my groin on the opposite side - went to my ob/gyn and he shocked me by saying this one WAS a hernia! I had out-patient surgery where they put in a teany-tiny piece of mesh and that was the end of that. So it's not uncommon to confuse a hernia with a swollen lymph gland.

Thanks for your reassuring responses, SpunkyGirl and SwimAngel:

Saw my onc. today and she and the surgeon think that a needle biopsy is a good idea, in order to rule out lymphoma. Based on the ultrasound report, they think it's "probably" nothing major...but  then again, that's what was said about my li'l 1.1 cm breast lump..

Does the fun ever stop? Thank god for Uncle Xanax and Auntie Klonopin--I am grateful for pharmaceutical help while I wait!

Will keep you posted-

M.

Yes--had it Thursday, they took 5 samples. I made the mistake of asking them if 3 cm is considered unusually large and they said it was "kind of big". Probably shouldn't have asked!

I should know by early next week. I am terrified--trying to keep my mind away from lymphoma scenarios.....
