HI

I am new here and want to give you a little background about myself. I am a 41 yr old happily married mother of two boys 12 & 10.

Last year I went for my yearly mammo and was called back for an u/s, report  said there were 4 cysts on each breast with 1 large on on each. I was referred to a breast surgeon/onc. He said the two cysts are only going to grow larger and get more uncomfortable so he aspirated them and sent them out for path and they both came back benign. Just went for my yearly mammo about 2 months ago and received a call back for an ultrasound. My reports came back reading cyst on both breast but a larger on my left breast were they aspirated last year. So I waited to go back to my gyn with was several weeks later and he said go back and see the breastt surgeon just to get his opinion. about two weeks ago I noticed a hard lump on my left breast , it was becoming very uncomfortable . Finally got in to see the breast surgeon, he did an ultrasound and said it is about the size of a walnut and it's hard he would like to remove to be sure it not cancerous. He also mentioned the lesion having cysts within it. I have no family history of breast cancer , never smoked.  I had an excisional biopsy on Tuesday 6/26 , quick surgery and i feel pretty good , I am worried and am hoping to get good results. I am going back on Tuesday to get my stitches removed and the surgeon will give me the results then. I have read about complex fibroadenomas having cysts within them , if anyone has and information they can give me about complex fibroadenomas , that would be helpful. This is one long week!

Thanks,

Sue

Sue, I have no specific experience with cysts or fibroadenomas, but I wanted to "bump" this thread up (make sure it rises to the top of the active threads lists so someone who has experience with this sees your post).

I also want to offer my best wishes...the waiting for results stinks...hang in there...and try to distract yourself with good music, good food and maybe some sunshine.  I hope your results are benign...

Hi Sue,

A couple of years ago I had my first mammogram. I was called back for additional views and a potential mammogram. The tech did the additional views and then went to see the radiologist and came back for more views. The radiologist came back and said he wanted an ultrasound done as there was a mass in my left breast. They did the ultrasound and found the mass which was a 3 lobed mass. The radiologist came back in and said that they need to biopsy that mass as it was suspicious looking.

A couple of weeks later I had an ultrasound guided core needle biopsy. The radiologist who did the biopsy said that it felt solid like a fibroadenoma and she was positive that it was a benign fibroadenoma. When the pathology came back it was a benign complex cyst. It apparently had a a semi solid outer shell with fluid and particles on the inside. It was hard enough to convince the radiologist That it was a solid fibroadenoma.

I guess my point in writing you is that sometimes it can look and act like one thing, but be quite another. Only a biopsy will tell you what it really is. That whole experience served to wake me up as to what's going on in my breasts. I always knew they were sensitive and painful, but never really knew why and didn't think enough of it to find out why. Now I know I have lumpy, sometimes painful fibrocystic breasts.

I hope that your biopsy comes back as a fibroadenoma or cyst and nothing more sinister than that. Good luck!

ok so I had my biopsy today....a weird experience. .... I had the biopsy done by a different medical facility that the mambo and u/s. they did both tests over. --- I was ok with that. --the results of the first set of test was a BIRAD of 4. mass 1.2x1.2x.07

this time they discussed whether I needed the biopsy--- dr thought everything looked normal. said he wasn't as concerned as he thought he would be--- looked at the area with 2 different size u/s wands. and then said he thought it was fine but he couldn't be 100%. sure. ......so he did the biopsy --- this all felt so weird to me. --- - they were able to "recreate". ( their words). the mass seen last week but didn't seem to match up the direction they thought to take to what the recommendation was last week. --- is this normal?

They think and I share this belief that it will be benign. but it was all so weird

I had a complex fibroadenoma removed in March and I am 43.  It was very mobile and quite difficult for the needle to make contact, on the core biopsy, it came back as "unusual" with irrelgular borders.  However, on excison, the mass was confirmed as a complex FA with changes.

It was classed as benign with me being followed up every six months for diagnostic ultra sound, as mmg did not pick up the mass as I have mixed breast density.  Usual for my age, however, it is prevents screening with mammos.

It can be normal, I had three different opinions, from three breast surgeons, I then insisted on seeing the radiologist again, who is the clinical director of screening, who confirmed on his report that it was a complex fibroadenoma.  That was all three months ago now and am back in September for follow up ultra sound!

So I had my follow up visit to get my stitches out and go over my results , b/s said it was a complex f/a that is benign.(yaah) He told me he will see me next year unless there are any problems. Seems like a long time. I am going to really have to keep up on checking and pay attention to any changes, because this was a scare. Thank you for all your good wishes and sharing your stories and god bless all of you ladies for being sooo strong and courageous.

Great news.  I'm in the waiting room myself - had a stereotactic needle biopsy this morning - will see my surgeon Friday.  Not a newcomer but happened to catch your post.

Hi

I am forty and went for a baseline mammo and it came back that i needed an ultrasound.  I was told I had a mass at the 12 o'clock position that was highly suspicious...2.3 cm in size.  Had the biopsy yesterday and am supposed to find out results on friday or monday.  There was one other small spot that they also biopsied.  Dr. said if it had been that spot alone, they probably would not have thought much about it.  I have resigned myself to the fact that it will come back a malignant.  Breast surgeon told me that my lymph nodes did not look abnormal.  I know that I am not alone in saying that I am scared beyond words.  Don't know what to do except obsess over it which i know is counterproductive...
