Just curious if anyone out there has gotten pregnant after chemo. I did not have children b/4 cancer and was/is devastated that I probably can't have them now...

There is some evidence/studies that having a baby afterwards can increase chance of a reoccurence. Also-shutting down your ovaries is really important. You could do the shots so you could leave the option open but I am sure your devastated-I am so sorry but on the flip side possibly you could adopt. My friend has stage 3 melanoma and can't have kids so she is doing foster children. JMV

My friend was diagnosed while breastfeeding - stage 3 at 36 years old. Did chemo, mast, rads, tamoxifen, etc. Took a tamoxifen break and had another baby 2 years later. So she is now about 5 years out with a 6 and 3 year old. Long May She Run

They gave her tamoxifen only and she took a break long enough to get pregnant. She had a hyst and ooph after the baby was born (but I think because she was having endometrial problems from tamox) Now she is on Femara. She had a very large tumor and 4 pos nodes. Long May She Run

My fertility doctor has told me there is no evidence that pregnancy post cancer increases your risk, but that since very few women have babies post cancer there are not many women;s experiences to draw on. Pregnancy increases estrogen levels but also progesteron levels, which are protective against excess estrogen. If your period comes back post chemo then you are still ovulating. And could get pregnant. It is certainly what I hope happens for me! Diagnosis: 1/22/2009, ILC, 2cm, Grade 2, 2/17 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Go to the MD Anderson site-there are several studies on pregnancy and cancer that they have done. JMV
