Just wanted to update you all.  Knee surgery was 1 1/2 weeks ago  and I was able to run 30 mins on indoor track today! Felt pretty good - doc calls me his star patient (would love to hear that from my onc!).  I am hoping to slowly build back up my miles and start training for a international distance triathalon this summer for Lymphoma Leukemia society.

My dad has another UTI - we brought hospice in today.  He is not going to get better and this is the first time I have seen him at peace in a long time.  He is ready to go - this is not the life he wants to lead and hopefully hospice will help keep him comfortably, emotionally and physically for the rest of his life.

Thank you all for your support, prayers and friendship!

Mary,

Im sorry about your dad. When my 85 yr old grandfather passed, the 3 days leading up to it he was at peace. He"knew" it was his time and he was ready. It was very hard for me. I asked his nurse privatly when my grandfather was expected to go home. Her response, " he wont be going home." <sigh>

I think your father is just tired. His life is not what it was this time last year and all the challenges he faces now are a big echo bust.

I felt comfort knowing the my grandfather lead a long and relativly healthy and happy life. He saw his only child, my father, grow up,get married and have his 2 grandkids. My brother and I. He saw us grow up, get married and myself have his great grandchild which was his biggest joy.

This is very hard.I think it is probably harder for you and your family than for him. I hope your remaining time together is peaceful with lasting good memories.

These are difficult times... I hope you two can still spend a lot of good times together.

Mary, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. Being ready or at peace at this time is so helpful for the crossover but it doesn't make it any easier for us, the survivors, esp when it is a parent. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Thanks for your kind words.   There was a time when I was afraid he would outlive me - it doesnt look like that is going to happen which is somewhat of a relief but I will miss him.  I just went and had breakfast with him and when I asked him what the best thing that had ever happened to him told me that it was "marrying you (me)"

He is 85 and really has had an amazing life.  He could have months or years, I just hope they are peaceful for him.

Jen - sorry about your father in law.

Oh, Mary.  I'm sorry to hear about your dad.  Hospice is wonderful.  We had them for both of my in-laws and my dad.  It is good to know that your dad has made peace with his remaining days.  May you and your family find comfort in that.

Mary, Having just been through this with my Dad a few months ago, I know the sadness that this brings. It's bittersweet knowing that the few moments you get to spend with your father every so often might be the last. My prayers are with you and your family as his life winds down.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Mary,

I'm so glad your dad is at peace finally.  I've been in your situation, and it is so emotionally and physically draining.  Please take the time to care for yourself.  That you are back to running so soon is awesome.  It means a lot to me, and it's my stress outlet.

We'll be thinking about you and your dad.

Love

Bobbie

Thanks ladies.  What a day.  Dad was a train wreck yesterdya - very agitated and confused.  When I got to nursing home this am they told me he had fallen out of bed early in the am. When I got in the room I couldnt wake him and he couldnt speak.  He had some kind of stroke or TIA or something.  He was unconcious most of the day but did wake a few times and woke for about 20 mins and even ate a bit of dinner.

My sister came up and spent some time with him today too. I do think he is dying but dont know how long  - I guess no one does.

Whenever he woke up I told him I loved him and he would smile.  Tonight he hugged me and told me he loved me before he went back to sleep.

Thanks for the kind words and prayers.
