Hi. My name is Sandy. I just started my chemo last friday, CMF. Have MF injections through the port and I take Cytoxin every night. I don't know what to expect. I've been reading a lot of things on line. I felt fine friday after the treatment. Saturday and Sunday very tired and also I feel like I have a constant heartburn in my stomach area. For the most part I just feel very tired. I can't fine the mouth wash that everone seems to mention on line, but I got a Tea Tree oil mouth wash and I've been rinsing my mouth 2-4 times a day just because. I seem to crave salty foods, and getting sick of drinking water. ANy suggestions from you ladies? What to expect after my second and third treatments, is it going to get worse or better? Hi Sandy,
I finished 12 treatments of CMF in Dec. '06. I had them like you are but I took 2 cytoxan pills in morning and 1 at night. I had my treatments on Wednesdays. Thursday I would be fine--the nausea and tiredness set in on Friday during the day and Saturday and Sundays I was worthless. Monday afternoon I started feeling better. I took pepcid AC all during chemo on the advice of my onc. I used Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash--you can get it at Walgreens,CVS,Shoprite,Wallmart. This is doable...it is all trial and error with each treatment. I hope I helped in some way. I will keep checking on you. You will be fine...Try drinking juices--I found grape juice to be good(I didnt like grape juice before chemo--lol)water w/lemon or oranges in it,too. Oh!! milkshakes I liked too.

Hugs and prayers,
Candie

Hi you all. It's great to hear from all of you, I feel a bit better. I thank you Candie for info on Biotene, I am going to check it out. My biggest concern right now is probably fear of losing my hair. I never really had a think head of hair, so I am afraid that I will lose it. So I've been checking into buying a wig. Did any of you lose all your hair or did it get really thin? Also, I started taking one Nexium in the mornings, that seems to help a lot with heartburn that I was having. I noticed that instead of getting diarrhea, I feel opposite. I am trying to drink a lot of water, one day I realized that it's making me nauseated. So now I try to flavor it with natural juices (half and half). And oh yes, milkshakes, yum yum. Did anyone notice that eating periodically small snacks helped with nausea? I notice that I have to snack a lot during the day. Anyways, I am just full of questions right now. Tomorrow is my #2 chemo. My friend is going to go with me. I will have time to talk to my onc and crearify some questions I have. Hope you are all doing well, I'll be eager to hear from you.

I just had my 5th CMF treatment today. It is very doable.
As far as hair loss goes..I can honestly say that I find more hair on my brush these days and on my shirts, but I still have a full head of hair. My hairdresser barely noticed any hair loss. You may not want to rush out to buy a wig, you may want to wait it out.
Frequent snacks do make you feel better , but be prepared for a little weight gain. Good thing is that weight gain temporary.
Biotene definately helps. I have not had a mouth sore yet.
Good luck to you. You can do it!
All my best

I had my second infusing friday. Felt very energetic through saturnday. Sunday I thing I cought a virus that my husband had, nausea, vomiting fever 100.4. So I stayed in bed, ate some popsickles, tylenol and some fluids. Monday I called in from work, thought one more day at work would be better than try to go and fight. I feel much better today, fever is gone, some nausea still, but then I am not sure if it's from the chemo. Biotene is great, I finally found it and Am using it. Haven't noticed hair thinning yet. I hope all of you are doing fine, love to hear about your experiences, and things that work for you. As it comes to eating, I am not craving anything anymore. I am sick of chicken, don't eat red meat. Yogurt sounds ok, maybe some shrimp too. What seemed to sound appetizing to you girls?

Hi Sandy,
2nd infusion behind you!!! That is great!!
Nothing was appetizing to me--lol. I went on binges. One week I ate macaroni and cheese for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was so yummy. But the next week--yuck!! Everyday was an adventure for food and drink. It was all trial and error.Pancakes, french toast and cereal tasted good for me. As I said, everyday was a different adventure.
Take care. I will be back to see how you are doing.

Hugs and prayers,
Candie

Hi Sandy,
In the Help me through Treatment there is a thread on CMF.
There weren't many going through it when I did. But there are gals that are doing and have done CMF that post there.
Hope the treatment is nice to you. it's not as hard I think as some of the others are to do.

Sendija: The oncologist should be able to prescribe something for nausea. I had 6 months of CMF in 1991. It wasn't too bad considering they had NO anti-nausea meds back then. Didn't lose my hair, it DID thin a little bit. Was definitely fatigued for a couple of days after treatment, so rest when you need to. Try to snack on healthy foods as well. Good luck, you'll do fine,
