I'm still nauseus and hardly able to eat. I was okay the first two days, but have basically been in bed since Sunday. Compazine, Ativan and Zofran not working for me. I've lost about 6 lbs. that I can't afford to lose.

I have a 2 1/2 y.o. dear daughter who is wondering why her mommy is so sick and upset.

Any ideas? I read the TCH thread before I started chemo, but now I feel too nauseus to go back and read it again.

Thanks,
Carolina

Hi,
This is my 2nd time with BC. I used EMEND on the 3rd of my 4 AC treatments the first time around. It was like night & day. I had lost 25pounds(which I couldn't afford to lose either)and after starting the EMEND I didn't lose another pound. You take it the day of your chemo (1) pill, 1 the next day and 1 the 3rd day. You also take an additional anti-nausea pill on top of that every 4-6hrs. for the same amount of days.

Zofran, Kytril didn't work for me.....Compazine & Phenergan(?) did. I have good insurance and still had to pay a $40copay for the EMEND. To me it was well worth it. Back when I first took it 4yrs. ago, it hadn't been approved by insurance and I paid $100 out of pocket per pill. My insurance did cover it 6mths. later once it was approved.

Hope this helps a little.

None of the so-called "anti nausea" medications helped in my case; in fact, I believe those medications worsened my vomiting, consta-reah (my term for having both all the time)

Normally, Cotylenol #3 makes me very sick...so sick, I didn't think I could use it. Had some though, and with another oncologist's advice (he was on-call) told me to take it, immediately. I did, and the vomiting, nausea, and pain stopped; it was all I took for the rest of the treatment, other than whatever it was they gave me during the infusions.
I ate lentil soup, ice cream, pickles, and some strange foods, which oddly enough, helped tremendously. I think the perpetual puking brought about an ulcer, and the A/C destroyed my stomach/abdomen/intestinal lining. Never got mouth sores; when I began taking co-tylenol #3 with malox, or various antiacids, kept foods soft, and drank peppermin teas; along with coffee/with lots of milk, and even icecream latte, the pain (the truly significant knife jabbing nausea) subsided. 18 months after the first day of surgery 12/15/05...

my intenstines continue to hurt, stomach and abdomen also never recovered completely; all I can say is, the antinausea stuff only made me sicker, caused horrific nightmares, and I was a mess throughout the A/C treatment.

They did not give me a port, and the techs stuck a few nerves in my right hand causing permanent swelling and nerve damage...

I was given 12 weekly Taxol treatments, and 32 rads afterwards; the onc. did not think my body could handle the dd 4 Taxols/taxotere. Funny, after all was said and done; research surfaced giving 12 weekly Taxol treatments the highest recommendation for treatments (trip neg, IDC, Grade 3 StageIb, very aggressive, vasular invasion, no nodes after sentinal node removal(4)).

What is TCH? Is it Taxol/Cytoxin and Herceptin?

Hope you feel better; find soothing foods; I was told to eat whatever I wanted, as long as it was cooked and pealed.

I'm not sure how to reply on these threads, but wanted to thank you all for your responses. On Thurs. Aug 23, I had to go back to have my PICC line flushed. I was still feeling so badly that I started crying as soon as I sat down in the chair. The nurse was great. They ended up giving me rehydration, Aloxi (ant-nausea), decodron, magnesium, potassium by IV. By that night, I felt much better. My WBC had was also very low, so had to have the Neulasta shot as well.

Next treatment, I will have the Aloxi with the tx (stays in system for 3 days), then use Emend. Also they said I can go back in any time after the tx if I need help (rather than being sick and suffering for a week). I had lost 8 lbs in a week.

Thanks for your recommendations. I will be discussing all this with oncologist before 2nd tx on Sept 7. Also, for the one who asked--TCH is taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin.

Best,
Carolina

Make sure you use another anti-nausea med along with the Emend. Hopefully, it will cut down even more on the nausea.
