All,

I was diagnosed with IDC Stage II in May of 2008.  I am currently going through chemo to be followed by radiation.

I am 43 years old, married with two children and a full time job.  Breast Cancer was definitely not in my plans!

When I was first diagnosed, a friend gave me the book Crazy, Sexy Cancer.  I thought it was a great book and one of the things she recommends is to gather up a posse of other cancer survivors and patients.

I know that there are several people located in Seattle and the Puget Sound area on different threads, but if there is a thread for all of us, I haven't found it.  I thought maybe we could all get together on one thread just to compare notes and support each other through this.

Come on in, the weather is fine!  Well it is Seattle and raining in July :(

Hope to hear from other Seattlelites and wish everyone the best in their journey.

Tracy

Jessica, I am also so sorry to hear about your mets, this cancer stuff sucks. I am doing neoadjuvent chemo, but am going to see Dr. Beatty for bmx. so I am happy to hear that you really like him! My docs say I will have to wait a year for reconstruction due to rads and to watch for recurrence. I hope the zometa and herceptin kick some you know what! Have you started yet? Are you at Swedish for treatment?

SeaShell, scans are always hard to get through. I stress out as soon as I have one scheduled, and sometimes before that. I have locally advanced cancer so they are watching me like a hawk during chemo, way more ct scans and pet scans than I would prefer! Wishing you clean scans so you can move on to diep. Are you seeing someone local for diep? I start to research and then remember that I can't have reconstruction for awhile, so I stop looking for a ps.

I would love a get together. My profile says Seattle, but I am actually near Maple Valley. What do you gals usually do for a get together? A restaurant, park, or someones house? Do any of you belong to teamsurvivor northwest? I would love to get started up on a walking group, still a bit iffy for me right now as I am still in treatment, but something I want to do in the future.

Hi ladies-and welcome newbies.  OK, I have definitely been remiss in setting up a get together.  We generally get together at Red Robin on Pier 54 in Seattle as we have ladies that come over on the ferry.

Bak94-I'm in Maple Valley as well.  Let me know where you are at.  I actually walk in the Susan G. Komen 3 day every year so I do a whole lot of walking.  There are 155 of us on the team, so if you need someone to walk with, I can hook you up!

Frosty1-Did I see your name on the 3rd Annual Ta Ta Sisterhood Las Vegas Trip?  This will be my third year traveling with these ladies.  We have so much fun.

OK, dates

Monday October 10

Tuesday October 11

Thursday October 13

Monday October 17

Wednesday October 19

Monday October 24

Let me know what works and we will put something together.

 Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for doing this.  As far as I know, all of these dates work.  Just checked my cycling club October Meeting date, and all is good.

Amazing that exactly two years ago today that I sat down with my surgeon to discuss the surgery and broader treatment plan.

I am now stronger and fitter than ever and now working on getting my career back on track as things have gone south with my key client.  Interestingly, I am really stoked about this.  Now, to make it all happen.

Anyway, have the most wonderful Labor Day weekend!!! - Claire

Wow Tkone, that is incredible that you do that! I certainly couldn't keep up with you guys at this point! Do any of you ever walk at the cedar river trail? I actually live just up the hill from there. Does anybody ever take their dogs on the walks? (not the organized ones, but the local walks) I could always leave them home, but they love their walks! One is a chi and one is a border collie mix, they behave ok but certainly are not perfect:)

As far as those dates, the only one that doesn't work for me is on Tuesday.

I cycle the Cedar River Trail sometimes, and dodge the dogs and pedestrians.  Reminder to do it on my hybrid, so I can do the extension and perhaps the connector to some of the other trails I haven't explored yet.

Am off doing the Interurban (south) today as need miles.  Boring, but effective.

As a public service announcement DON'T GO OVER THE SPEED LIMIT!!!!  I paid the fine and am in "good driving jail" for six months for going too fast on Rt 101 in Pacific County.  They will be out in major revenue generation mode this weekend.

Hoping everyone has a safe and fun one. - Claire

Hi Ladies....I also live in Seattle and just bought a juicer to do some Crazy Sexy juicing :)

I had a BMX on Aug. 16th and am getting ready to start rads in a couple of weeks.  I did neoadjuvant chemo.  My cancer is a beast!

I'd love to get together with everyone.  My schedule is flexible and I don't have any conflicts with those dates right now.  I will be doing rads and chemo (oral) during that time, so hopefully I will feel up to it.

bak94 - I'm seeing Dr. Jeffrey Scott in Everett for my Diep. He's one of the few in the area that specializes in microvascular breast reconstruction. He graduated from the UW and then did a 6 year training in reconstructive surgery at the UW, Harborview and Children's Hospital. I was very impressed with him and trust him completely.

Tracy, I would love to join when a date is decided. I used to work in Belltown not far from the Red Robin, but now I travel for business. I know I'm out of town the week of the 10th, but whatever you all decide on I'll hopefully be able to join. Have not joined any support groups but now I am mentally ready to meet some local  ladies.

All of the dates are doable at this point ... but you never know what tomorrow brings.  It will be great to get together with everyone -- it has been way too long -- and to hear about our 3-day walkers.

And, yes, I am going to the TaTa Reunion in Vegas!  Just booked my flight.  I'll be staying with Gillyone from Idaho.

I had my Diep surgery performed by Dr. Beshlian & Dr. Paige (Virginia Mason).  They did a great job.  If I had not chose to have the DIEP surgery  (had radiation, so implants we kind of out for me) and was going to have implants, I have heard great things about Dr. Welk (PolyClinic I think) He doesn't perform the DIEP surgery. GL
