All,
I was diagnosed with IDC Stage II in May of 2008. I am currently going through chemo to be followed by radiation.
I am 43 years old, married with two children and a full time job. Breast Cancer was definitely not in my plans!
When I was first diagnosed, a friend gave me the book Crazy, Sexy Cancer. I thought it was a great book and one of the things she recommends is to gather up a posse of other cancer survivors and patients.
I know that there are several people located in Seattle and the Puget Sound area on different threads, but if there is a thread for all of us, I haven't found it. I thought maybe we could all get together on one thread just to compare notes and support each other through this.
Come on in, the weather is fine! Well it is Seattle and raining in July :(
Hope to hear from other Seattlelites and wish everyone the best in their journey.

Just wanted to chime in to say how nice it was to meet up again and see new faces too. :)
I survived the "extreme weather warning" tornado watch in St.Louis. It's good to be back home!

Maybe sometime you will meet a little further East. I would like to participate sometime. When I drive more here I will probably feel more comfortable going further too.

Gingerbrew, How much farther east? They're turning the ferry area into a nightmare traffic area pretty soon, so east might look better.

Or farther south?

Gingerbrew, That's a relief. I was afraid you were in Mazama. Not willing to drive farther than Leavenworth.

Wren44, Mazama is too far for me, too! (I actually looked that up to see where it is:)
Hello KangaMama and welcome! Sorry you have to be here but BCO is such a great place for information, support, friendships and more. I've been to 2 Seattle get togethers and everyone is SO nice and welcoming.

Well actually east of Redmond toward Carnation. I was afraid to tell you that because I thought I was too far for all of you. Leaventworth though, that is a haul even from here. lol They do have some great streusel threre!
There is a restaurant not too far from SCCA that is open 24 hours, has these comfortable booths and great coffee. I have gone there with my DD and DGD after treatment and appointments. Good good food, especially eggs benedict, wonderful. My memory wont let me tell you the name though.

Hi, I live in Mukilteo. I'm new to this thread, too. I'm about to start many months of treatment - chemo "lite" and rads, followed by anti-hormonals, of course.

Welcome Jeannie, sorry you have to join us. Wow, 2 surgeries, one right after the other. You've been through the ringer! Hope you're feeling better. Where are you going for chemo and rads?

Welcome to the new ladies. I hope to be able to meet all of you at some point. Just for historical note on the location of the get-togethers....I live in Maple Valley, we had people coming from Lynwood and several from Bainbridge island so we had to find somewhere in the middle. We chose the Red Robin on the pier in Seattle because those who were coming from across the water could walk there from the ferry and it was roughly equal distance for the southenders and the northenders. It is unfortunate that cancer hits every corner of Washington.
That being said, I will likely keep the "official" get togethers at the same spot for convenience sake, but if you find others here in your area, I hope you will get together on your own. That is why we are here, to provide support for each other in whatever way works best. If there are many on the Eastside or in the Northend, gather a posse and get together! You won't regret it, I know I haven't.
Have a happy sunny day.
Tracy

NWArtLady, I am getting treated at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I will be able to get the rads closer to home, though, at the U facility near Northwest Hospital.

Oh, and I have recovered from the surgeries really well. Just some lingering tiredness. Now I am recovering from getting a port on Monday. I start weekly CMF on 5/25 for 12 weeks, then rads, then another 12 weeks of weekly CMF. It's a lot considering I am in the "gray area," but I decided to hit it hard, no regrets. We'll see how it goes. I'm ready. I'm looking at it as a seasonal job, less time than a pregnancy!

Less time than a pregnancy! You're too funny!!
I've heard great things about SCCA. I'm glad you can get your rads done closer to home - the daily grind got to me after a while. It helped that I got mine at a location that was a 5-10 minute drive from work (depending on traffic). Hopefully the drive from Mukilteo and Northwest Hospital is relatively easy. I have a friend who works there and she loves it!

I was at SCCA yesterday and my lab tech told me it is a wonderful place to work. That is just so nice to hear from an employee. Even better I didn't feel the stick at all, not one bit!
