Cris reports driving six hours to Disneyland on the passenger side of the car gazing at a window cling of a pink ribbon - all the way down and all the way back. "God bless mom. She made a donation and they sent it to her. So here I am, trying to be normal and get away from the fact that I have bc and there it is, staring at me for 12 hours."
Anyway, we figured it might be fun to hunt out and share our funniest, most nauseating, or weirdest "pink" products during these next few weeks. Pics are optional but certainly more interesting.
Ready, women? Let 'er rip.

I'm using the URL's from the article instead of pasting from Photobucket; we'll see if it works this way. The pics will disappear if the original website changes. Anyway: Pink tear-free onion goggles-- KitchenAid pink "Cook for the Cure" Appliances--
Pink salad-mixing forks ("Extra Hands for a Cure")--
Pink gardening gear--
And, pink wine glasses--
I guess they didn't read this article reminding women that one "large" glass of wine per day ("large" glass defined as 250 ml) increases the risk of BC by 20%: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7675843.stm OTOH, I experienced some "good pink" on Thursday when I went to a specialty mastectomy/breast cancer supply store for a prosthesis fitting. The store owner and all her employees are BC "survivors". In addition to finding a nice booblet, I was given lots of pink trinkets in a fashionable pink plastic sack. I'm not being critical of the "good pink"--it actually made me feel a little bit special, as if someone in retail sales cared about me. otter Dx 1/14/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/3 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- |

Hi All, There were more than 5,000 walkers yesterday!! I probably could have collected more donations for our team if I had offered to share, for $5 or $10 per minute, LOL. I was going to insert a picture of our team, but can't figure out how to do it. LeftyAKAnancy, one of the other women here on the forum who is finishing rads soon is actually planning on dressing up as a Boob that Glows in the Dark for Halloween. so, great minds think alike! I hope she posts a photo here if she does. She's trying to talk her husband into dressing as the Normal Boob. LOL! Like the pink wig! You gotta post a photo here if you can. Otter, I have to schlepp my camera to the mall because I've seen a few interesting things in the past few days: 1) Susan G. Komen Purina Cat Chow. The huge bag of it has pink packaging, which is silly, but they do say that they are donating $175,000 to BC research. 2) This came in an email from Sony (I have a Sony wide-screen flat screen computer monitor):. I couldn't tell when I clicked the link how much money was actually going to go to research.
3) This I found accidentally. It was on a cancer research site. Sutter Home Vineyards started this, I guess, because they make a very popular blush wine that happens to be pink. They used to also auction a pink motorscooter signed by a bunch of celebs (actually, I have a friend with a pink scooter whose husband gave it to her when she had cancer!), but now they're sponsoring a woman cyclist. Interesting:

Heh heh, rock. Surivor. If It wasn't chemobrain, then it must have been that there was no room for the other "v" I guess. I hope the cake was good anyway. Summer, what was that? I saw the special edition, pink plaid-for-BC Better Homes & Gardens cookbook at Lowe's again. Nobody bought it yet. Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the pink-for-BC stuff is marked way down on sale lately? Must not be moving very well. I once again managed to avoid buying the pink Pillsbury Grands biscuits and the pink boxes of General Mills cereal. I never said this before. When I was visiting my parents in August, I noticed that my mom had a little, pink BC ribbon-shaped ornament on a keychain attached to her purse. It was not there last winter (before my BC dx). My sister also had one attached to the zipper on her purse. There was a third BC keychain ornament lying on the windowsill in my mom's kitchen. I didn't tell anyone in my family that I had seen it. I suppose it was for me, but I had been fussing so much about all the "awareness" stuff making me uncomfortable (like, does anybody think I'm not aware already???)... Now I feel bad about being such a grouch, when they were trying to reach out in whatever way they could. otter (sniff, sniff...) Dx 1/14/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/3 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- |

Aww Otter. Your mom and your sister...well, I think that is sweet. They think they are making a contribution...as do many. They probably feel that it connects them to "it" in some way. But don't feel bad for being a grouch. Tonight, my 8 year old son is with me at checkout at Safeway. They have a big BC awareness "thing" going on this month...duh. So tonight they have a bead chain (like mardigras beads) hanging at the counter with the sign that says how much goes to bc. He SO wants one because he wants to help. So I bought one for him. $2 for beads worth .05 but makes him feel like $1,000,000.00. $1 goes to bc..fine. Its $1 they wouldn't have gotten in June if he'd asked me to buy him a cheap chain of painted beads worth .05 and HE feels like he is helping cure mommy. I'm good with that. ~Adrienne

I am personally glad there is awareness for Breast Cancer and all other cancers. Years ago, when my mom had bi lat mastectomies the " C " word was a huge no no ---- you were evil or possessed by the devil IF you should develop cancer. Many of you may too young to remember. However, even today - cancer is looked down upon by many. HOW did you get it, what did you do, or not do to get it... GRRRRRRR... I am sporting pink today for chemo, even my pink wig - as we celebrate the last tx for Bonnie and Christina. Oh, rock! That cake is freakin' awesome. And Summer, you are amazing, finding these photos that you find. I don't know how I feel about the landmarks thing. They did that here in RI with a local & really righteous BC organization by lighting the RI state house in pink lights. Mostly, the artist part of me loves the whole thing & the rest of me gets kind of a kick out of the symbolism. I don't know how much it really accomplishes, but I know that it is a way to get a bunch of people to think about BC who wouldn't think about it ordinarily. And if that leads to one more woman getting a mammogram or an ultrasound & saving her life, then it's a good thing. Otter, in general, I think intent is the whole thing anyway with the pink stuff. Who's doing it, why, what's the real agenda, etc., etc. We can get righteous about the blatant rip-off's & the corporate overkill & still love our friends & family who want to make a statement that they love us by having a pink thing. Here's a case in point. Last night, I went to a fund-raising event called "Tickled Pink," at a local country club that was sponsored by Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, where I had my biopsy & lumpectomy. We got dinner & camaradery plus an evening of comedy by two local women who have a comedy duo called "Girls Night Out," & a nationally traveled woman comic named Michele Balan. The food was good, the comics were absolutely hilarious & I cried off all my mascara by laughing. At the beginning, one of the surgeons told us about a research study that was funded partly by money raised by this event. Then they gave each of us who'd had/have breast cancer a pink feather boa!! And later they gave away goodie bags for the raffle tickets they sold. It was a really fun & light-hearted night. I got a pink boa & won a goodie bag that was put together & donated by another survivor who was two rows in front of me. The goodie bag was filled with a lot of stuff I feel ambivalent about, but the spirit with which it was donated & came my way was wonderful. This morning, I proudly wore my pink boa to the office to drop off some paperwork. Here's a few pix:
Taking a photo of myself in the mirror with my boa.
Here's the goodie bag & contents. The hot pink pen has a message with the phone # of the local mammography center. My favorite thing is the boobie cookies from the dessert buffet. lumpectomy 8/14/08, finished rads 10/6/08, tamoxifen soon
