Are you referring to the Bisphosonate Clinical Trial, S0307, Phase III trial of Bisphosophonates as Adjuvant Therapy for Primary Breast Cancer? My oncologist highly recommended the trial for me and I plan on enrolling this month. There are 2 arms currently open in the trial: the Zometa IV arm or the Clodronate (pill) arm. I'll be randomized into one of the arms. Donna Dx 6/09, IDC TNBC, 1.4cm, Stage 1, Grade 3, 0/5 Nodes, ER-, PR-, HR-, BRCA -, Bilateral, Chemo T/C X 4.

Hi Lesleyann, I seriously considered the Zometa trial after two med onco's recommended it to me. Recent trials have shown it to help prevent recurrence and strenghthen bones. My insurance approved me for off-label use twice a year, as per the Austrian trial, so I went with that, and my onco seemed very pleased with that option too. There is a rare but very nasty side effect to the Zometa: osteonecrosis of the jaw. I believe it is less prevalent if you get the oral form of the drug, but you should verify that. If you do opt for the trial, be sure to visit your dentist beforehand and have any major work done if you can. I have included some links to previous and ongoing discussions about the bisphosphonate trial and Zometa that have lots of info and links to studies. Can't seem to hyperlink on this site! I think this trial is very exciting. My onco and others at his hospital believe Zometa and/or bisphosphonates will be standard of care in the future if results of current studies continue to be positive for helping prevent recurrence. Best of luck! Diagnosis: 1/5/2009, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/2 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Good day to you I am currently on this trial - clodronate pill is what was chosen for me. Been on the pills for about a month now. No serious side effects. Although if I don't drink at least a full glass of water when I take them I inevitably throw them back up. Trial and error on how much water. My oncologist is very encouraged by this trial as well and I am enthusiastic that the pill will add to my aresenal! Diagnosis: 1/26/2009, IDC, 3cm, Stage IIb, Grade 2, 3/18 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Lesleyanne, There was also a good discussion re: Zometa a while back on the Stage III forum. It was called: Zometa, anyone? You can look for it on the Discussion Boards Search to find it. Best wishes! PS: Previous post deleted due to technical difficulties. Diagnosis: 1/5/2009, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/2 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |
