I am so disgusted with doctors for not adequately telling us these warnings.  Yell

This is interesting.  Here in the UK, The Pill has been rather out of favour for a long time, and as far as I am aware, doctors don't like prescribing once you go into your 40s.

I was certainly in my 40's when prescribed to me and took for several years. My Ob/Gyn (then) never mentioned any age issues.

I never took birth control pills or any type of estrogen replacement yet here I am. My sister did take bc pills and continues on low (lower since I got bc) dose estrogen. She's 7 years older then me and so far, so good for her.

CP - just out of interest,  I took the Progesterone only pill until I was about 43.  But over here, in general terms, the GPs have been anti contraceptive pill and also HRT (except for very specific reasons) for donkeys' years.   However, one "side effect" of this is that Britain has the highest rate of under -age pregnancies in Europe.

REKoz - best wishes to you and your family.

You know that saying where hind sight is 20 - 20 vision.  There are several things, I would have done different if I had known better at the time. OC pills is obviously the big one - but - at this point in the scheme of things, I can't undo the past. (I took OC pills between age 36-45.)  (Although I do have a desire to confront some of these doctors and really blast them.)  However, it would accomplish nothing except give me high blood pressure, stress and aggravation - for what???  Better to move on now and focus on healing and enjoying life.

I took the contraceptive pill for most of my fertile life with the exception of two pregnancies and breast feeding. When I hit 40 I asked my GP should I give up - he advised me to keep taking it until I was 50 and then give up and I would probably go straight into menopause.

I was dx with BC at 45 - no one ever told me to give up the pill !!!  After dx I sat with the pack in my hand wondering what to do, I decided myself that it was probably not a good idea to continue!!!

Was it a contributing factor? - I imagine I will never know.
