I had 2 weeks  vacation from Arimidex, but didn't see a difference.

I would like to take it again, for longer period of time to see if it will make pain to go away.

For how long it will be safe?

fire, are you asking us how long it will be "safe" to stop taking Arimidex?  In other words, is it really necessary to take it continuously, to prevent a BC recurrence?

IMHO, this is a question you should be asking your doctors.

Fire,

You really do have to talk to your doctor-they can take the necessary blood work to find out how much estrogen you have in your blood. I could not tolerate arimidex or aromosin and I had to go back on the tamoxofin. I developed horrible pain in my hands on arimidex, at first my doctor did not believe that it had anything to do with the meds but he agreed to let me go on Tamoxofin. It took about 6 weeks for the pain to go away, but it did.

Otter and Davisfamily,

thank you very much for reply.

Doctors don't believe that my pain is from Arimidex.

But I know it for sure, because after chemo and rad's I was very weak, couldn't walk.

I started to go to gym and swimming.

I started swimming very slow at May 2007. I started to feel much  better, lost weight( not much) got more flexible, could bow down, walk stairs with both legs, was thinking to start working at May of 2008.

I had some pain in my legs, but I even didn't take advil for this, it was not big deal.

But suddenly, in March 2008 I started to feel pain in my legs, espesially on back of my left knee.

I started to take Arimidex in March of 2007. Exactly one year from this I started to feel strange pain, and it got worst every day.

X-ray, ultrasound and MRI showed nothing in my left leg, which is very bad, and arthritis in right, and I had it before.

Pet scan showed little arthritis and bursitis in left leg, but not significant.

Doctor said "it is unexplained pain".

But now they said that I have to lose weight and exercise more.

But I did it and I got pain.

They said that if I didn't  take Arimidex for 2 weeks, and pain didn't go away -  it means-it is not from  Arimidex.

They don't know what is going on.

That's why I need to know, may be somebody have the same problem.

I have been on Arimidex since May 2007 and my left leg is bothersome too.  Kind of a numbness, tingling and itching sensation.  Doctor recommended physical therapy for it and doing stretching exercises. I'll see if it helps.

I've switched from Tamoxifen to Arimidex about six weeks ago.  Over the last couple of weeks I have developed aching pain in my hands, wrists, lower arms and feet.  Has anyone had this type of pain improve as time goes on or will it continue as long as I am taking Arimidex?

I have had horrible pain with the arimidex in my legs and feet was switched to femara and after 6 months the pain has gotten horrible again in my legs.  I started on arthrotec for arthritis and that has helped the feet and back and stuff but not the legs.  I have alot of pain in behind my left knee?  I have never had that before.  I have even considered coming off these pills for about 6 weeks letting my body rest and trying every other day for awhile if the doctor will ok this...

I was not on arimidex....I took femara for 2 yrs and had horrible pain in my hands. Since I use my hands a lot and especially in my work I couldn't tolerate it any longer. With my onc ok I went off of it for over 3 months. My pain is gone but it took almost that whole time for it to clear up. I feel so much better that I've sat and stared at the aromasin bottle he wants me to try for a week now. Still haven't taken any. I have a breast MRI this Thur. I will wait till that is done and then decide what I'm doing. I'm stage 1 with a recurrance rate of 7-8% taking the AI and 15-20% if I don't. That is for a 10 yr period. It's been wonderful to feel myself.

I've been off the Arimidex for about a month now.  Gawd I feel good.  I'm happy, I'm energetic, most of the pain in my feet is gone (part of one foot is still numb), my hands don't feel quite so bad.  I'm going to Curves 3 days a week and feel like myself again - losing weight and getting stronger.  I'm not sure I want to try the Femara.  A 2% or 3% increase in risk isn't that scary to me.

If you can't be a good example be a tremendous warning!

I stopped taking Arimidex 8/8 and I think, my mood is better.

My legs pain is still here. But at night it is less, and I can keep my left leg straight.

I told my nurse that I'm trying to see if I will be better off arimidex.

I don't know my risk of reccurance, she said I have to talk to onc. I have app in middle of September.

I'm scared not to take arimidex, but I can't stand my pain.

Good luck to all of us.
