Hi ladies! I had my first Zoladex injection last month, and got my period today....anyone else experience this? Isn't this the opposite of what needs to be accomplished???? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi-- I had my first Zolodex shot at the end of August--my onc. told me that sometimes it takes a couple months or the next injection (I'm on the every 3 mo. plan)--to stop periods. Best bet is to check with your doctor, I guess... What side effects have you had? I've noticed some new fatigue which slowly seems to be abating. I am exhausted on this stuff...was on lupron and femara initially, then switched to Tamoxifen and couldn't tolerate that...very heavy periods and thick endometrium... I ready to say " uncle". Diagnosis: 12/26/2007, IDC, 1cm, Stage Ib, Grade 1, 0/8 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Hi, I am on the 3 month injection and have not had a period since I started. Had some spotting initially and then nothing. Will have my second injection next week. The fatigue and hot flashes are something else though. I am 44 so I am wondering if this and chemo will put me into menopause. Goo luck. Diagnosis: 7/16/2009, ILC, 4cm, Grade 1, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Hi Athena, I am still working and doing stuff around the house. I cannot say if the fatigue is solely from Zoladex or the TAXOL (neoadjuvant-week 12 last week). I have been on the extreme end with minimal SE's so pretty fortunate. I used to burn the candle at both ends and slept an average of 6 hours per day. I was pretty aggressive in what I got done for work and home. Now, I work less than 8 hour days 4 days a week, ideally go to bed at 9 and get up at 6:30 and am pretty tired to downright exhausted after 6 PM, depending on the day. Shopping tires me out and I cannot do much yardwork or gardening. So not bad, just very different from usual. Hope that helps, take care. Yo Diagnosis: 7/16/2009, ILC, 4cm, Grade 1, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Hi Athena, Thankfully my fatigue seems to have subsided, although I do rely on a bit of coffee around that late afternoon slump time. I would definitely discuss the Zoladex option w/ your onc---perhaps ask if it's possible to have an initial injection at a lower dose? Speaking of fatigue, have you ever tried Provigil? It has helped me in the past with antidepressant-related lethargy. My only other side effects w/ Z. are occasional night sweats and very wimpy hot flashes-in fact, I'd have to say they're warm flashes. An interesting sensation.... Also, I'm perhaps a tad more irritable and uptight---but that could be ordinary moodswings that I have been "challenged" by for years! Thank god for Lamictal--it goes well with Lexapro! Wow--I feel like I'm writing a restaurant review :)..... Anyway, hope you're doing better. Miriam Diagnosis: 9/18/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage Ib, Grade 1, 0/3 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |
