Sorry for the switcheroo, but I got tired of seeing that user name every time I posted! My new user name is because 1) I'm a crunchy "organic food" type (at least, now that I have bc), and 2) although I'm not blessed to be the mother of human children (yet?), I have adorable Standard Poodles who keep me laughing all day long.
So, girls, SuperScared is no more!
Also - my given name is Julia. I put Julie in my signature because that's what my parents and childhood friends call me (except for one who, annoyingly, calls me Ju-Ju but let's not go there!
). I think I'm going to change it back to Julia because it's weird having people address me by my childhood nickname.
Guess I should have thought all this out a little better when I first signed up and posted that first terrified post!
Thanks for bearing with me and to my fellow "nature girls" who are so sweet, sympathetic, and generally wonderful.

Ooh, aren't they wonderful? What color/gender is yours? We actually have three... two boy puppies, a black one and a white one, and a 7-year-old girl. I'm convinced they are geniuses and they are so goofy and hilarious! Love the new name! But I have to disagree! I do think standard poodles are fun and highly intelligent, but I have the greatest little French Bulldog known to mankind! I also have an English Mastiff who is the sweetest, but most timid, dog in the world. Fabio (the FB) runs her like a Marine Sergeant. We should start a thread where we just talk about our furry friends. It always makes me laugh. Laura Diagnosis: 8/17/2009, IDC, 2.2 cm, Stage IIa, Grade 3, 0/2 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2-

We are on our second one - we get ours used. The first one was a white female.....truly sweet, affectionate, brilliant. Unfortunately she had all sorts of health issues and we lost her a month after her 11th birthday. So......we went looking for another used poodle, preferably male & black so it wouldn't be anything like our first one. What we ended up with is another white female, though she has faint touches of apricot in her coat. She's also much smaller (38# vs 65#), cranky, stubborn, but so devoted and attached to us. We got her when she was 10, and she's just had her 15th birthday! meg

Meg, that's the best kind of re-cycling. Until the time when someone comes up with a definitive "cure", we each have to cobble together what we believe will be the most effective treatment that we can live with, not merely survive.

Just jumping in because I love poodles. We used to have German Shepherd dogs, but after the last one died, I decided I wanted no more shedding. Did some research and thought about labradoodles or goldendoodles - then concluded that since they were all mated and then mated again with poodles, that a standard poodle would be perfect. Had to talk my DH into it. He thought they all had to look fru-fru. Molly is the sweetest dog - very easy temperament - goofy - loves people. She's our "omega" dog (as opposed to the alpha variety). Handle every stressful situation like a dog - if you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away. Dx 12/2005 Stage IV, Grade 3, mets ER+ PR- Her/2 (2+)

Jeanne, oh my gosh, I am freaking out at your avatar! That's Molly? She is beautiful!! She looks SO much like my Dixon!! I had thought poodles were all fru-fru too... in fact I wasn't even really familiar with Standards until I met my husband. He is a 6'4" manly-man, and I nearly died when he told me on our first date that he likes poodles. I just couldn't picture that! (until I met his parents' VERY manly-man Standard Poodle who I'm convinced could beat anyone up if he had wanted to!!) We could have a whole thread about how smart standard poodles are! Like our Ivory (poodle #1) - she was so scornful of the golden retriever who lived across the street. Ivory figured out where the line was on the neighbor's property for their invisible fence. She would regularly pee just outside the dog's fence line! meg

Oh that is too funny... my pups do stuff like that too... hurl insults at the neighbor dogs etc.! And yep, standards were bred as hunting/working dogs. I can really see that in how they play... they're so attentive and focused when they're "stalking" a squirrel or something! Oh girls, I'm so envious that you have standards. I have always wanted one but could never afford one. I groomed dogs for about twenty years. I feel in love with them. Currently I have a lab (she is the best dog in the world!!!) a cairn terrier and a silky terrier. They are tons of fun and they are a great comfort to me. I have a parakeet also!!!! And here I thought I had the greatest dog in the world!! Flat Coat Retreiver and brilliant. Everyone she meets comments on her great behavior. She sheds like crazy and I have her shaved twice a year, bu that is her only draw back. She was recycled too. Got her from a rescue. Now if I can only talk my DH into getting another one. PauldingMom - I'm so sorry you thought you had the greatest dog in the world but my lab, Glory, has had that spot for 5 years. She is so great that she doesn't even shed (I'm a liar, lol). I saved her from a life stuck in a kennel. I do believe the rescue dogs have a greater appreciation for us and they will show it the rest of there lives. I will bet you retriever looks hilarious shaved!!!! I remember doing that for customers with dogs like that!!!!! The dogs always seemed to be embarrassed when shaved. Patty P.S. Love your head!!!!!
