Has anyone heard about the use or has used foodgrade hydrogen peroxide as alternative care? I heard about through a friend of the family who'se mother-in-law used it and it apparently shrunk her tumour as it was no longer visible when they went in to do a lumpectomy. I went to healthfood pharmacy where they actually sold it, but no-one could give me any detail about its uses. They did say that many people came to buy it. I was quite taken aback that given that so many people asked for it, sold it but they did not have any information about it. I really felt like I was asking for crack or cocaine or something.

gutsy ~ Looks like there's quite a bit about it on the internet. I didn't read too much further than this though: www.quackwatch.org/00AboutQuac... Hydrogen peroxide is under Oxygenation therapies.
Of course, there are also a few alternative healing sites that are very pro this type of therapy, but even those have warnings such as this:
"It is also very true that in spite of so many advantages of hydrogen peroxide it has many other disadvantages also. Inhalation of hydrogen peroxide openly may cause fatal blood disorders in the body. If taken excessively internally then it may also lead to toxic reactions. If H2O2 is not diluted enough then it may cause chemical reactions leading to cause of nausea, etc. although, anybody going under a treatment it is suggested to be done under proper guidance of medical officers and trained doctors."
I'm very pro integrative treatment (using complementary & alternative therapies along with conventional ones), but I don't think I'd personally touch this one. JMHO...Deanna

I have a bottle of it in my fridge. When I was first diagnosed that was one of the things I began doing, drinking oxygenated water. 8 drops per 12oz bottled water. It does take some getting used to.. I suggest drinking it in one breath, the taste is not pleasant. It is very dangerous stuff though, MUST be kept in the fridge or it can explode. It's literally rocket fuel! I need to start that up again, I've been slacking. Thanks for the reminder and I hope this helps.

It's oxidative too. Formula is H2O2 and it is pretty unstable. It rapidly loses the Oxygen becoming: water plus a free oxygen radical. Free radicals are implicated in DNA damage.
Personally, I use it topically to disinfect wounds sometimes, and occasionally to brush teeth, but I'd never use it internally. In the eye it can cause blindness, even at much milder dilutions.
Total silliness to think it would do anything to cancer.

Thanks for the feedback. There is quite a bit written about it in the treatment of serious illnesses. I think I will pass as I don't want to risk my health further.

LJ13-2, I hear your message but just to clarify, do NOT use Foodgrade 29% Hydrogen Peroxide on a wound, as mouth rinse or even touch your skin at all. Undiluted, it will seriously burn you.
I'll heed the warnings and get the facts before starting up again. Definitely not interested in making things worse on myself.

why drink oxygen (it's going to turn to a burp or fart) when you can breathe it for free?

As a chemistry teacher, I use 30% hydrogen peroxide for some really violently explosive and showy demonstrations, so I can't imagine how it would be good to ingest or inject it. 3 - 5% is the standard concentration at the drug stores, but 29% is extremely caustic and can burn skin just like a strong acid or strong base.

I am back too, I believe that every thing helps, and the oxigenation of the blood certainly can't hurt. Everything one does for the over-all health is a win-win. Dear Gutsy,
I am an employee of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and came across this discussion thread. I would encourage you and anyone interested in obtaining reliable information about herbs, botanicals, supplements, and alternative regimens to consider taking a look at the "About Herbs" section of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's web site. It offers evidence-based information about herbs, botanicals, supplements and other natural products, including purported uses, warnings, interactions, study results, potential benefits and side effects, etc. The information in the database is free and maintained by a pharmacist and botanicals expert on staff at Sloan-Kettering The link is www.mskcc.org/aboutherbs.
I took the liberty of looking up hydrogen peroxide and wanted to share the search results:
Hydrogen Peroxide: www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/69317...
I hope this information is useful to you and others on this site, as it can sometimes be difficult to sort out the confusing claims made for over-the-counter products. I wish everyone the best of luck as they gather information on this topic.
