we tried this once before and thought it was worth a shot to try again. bcmets normally does roll calls periodically and they do alot to help motivate and keep the fight up in some that get down and out. I thought this could help keep the spirits up here in the face of adversity! I'll be more than happy to start. If you somehow date your roll call it might help others keep in mind how long you are still surviving with cancer!
June 2008
LuAnn, dx 7/2/06 with bone mets to sternum and ribs
7/06 to 2/07 Arimidex/Zometa (stopped tx due to adverse s/e)
2/07 to 5/07 Aromasin/Zometa (had progression of bone mets)
5/07 to current (6/08) Faslodex/Zometa/Herceptin
Bone mets are very well under control and QOL is very well with the exception of back disorder that is non cancer related!

Surgery #3 - April 05 - Remove expanders and implant surgery with RB reduction. Surgery #4 - Aug 05 - Failed implant - implant slipped from pocket, replaced with another one. Surgery #5 - Nov 05 - Implant failed again - Another implant was replaced and breast was stitched up to chest wall to hold the pocket. Surgery #6 - March 06 - Had enough with Implant so Implant removed and TRAM Flap reconstruction. April 06 - MSRA Staph infection in new TRAM Flap breast - In hospital for 5 days getting infection under control. Surgery #7 - July 06 - Abdominal mesh placed in abdomen due to severe abdominal wall bulge. That didn't help either. Dx (by accident) Sept 2007 with widespread and extensive mets to the liver (3 lobes involved) and bones (femurs, spine, pelvis). Still Grade 1, Her2+++( they double checked the grade 1 and it was infact still Grade 1, still not sure if that is good or bad). Weekly Taxol/Herceptin and monthly Zometa. Jan 08 - PET/CT scan reveal complete metabolic response to interval therapy. Dramatic response to therapy. Largest tumor in liver reduced from 3.5cm to less than 1cm. Other tiny tumor in liver down to 6mm. Bones healing, (funnily enough there are no signs of the cancer in femurs or spine, just healing area in pelvis) no new mets. April 08 - mom dx with trunkal lymphadema. Undergoing oscillation therapy and daily and nightly garment wrapping. May 08 - CT Scan revealed, one area of lucency in right dome of the liver representing as treated mets, other than that liver was clear. Spot on pelvis healing, still no signs of cancer in femurs or spine. No new mets. She feels great, blood work and TM's completely normal. No pain, no symptoms, no SE's from chemo. She is feeling better now than she has in her years without the cancer. Michelle Mom has Stage IV mets to liver and bones, details of dx below

Hi ladies, great idea so heres my story as far as I can remember it!! 2002 just before 31st birthday found a lump in breast (no family history) dx stage 1 breast cancer, lymph nodes sampled and they were clear had left mastectomy, given TAMOXIFEN told this was only treatment needed 2003/4 check up appointment dr felt lump in left armpit, total node clearence 17/20 nodes affected no mets at this stage, had EPIRUBICIN (the good old red devil!) CMF and 20 rad sessions to armpit and chest, stopped tamoxifen and started ZOLADEX and FEMARA (think thats what it was) 2005/6 after fab wedding in vegas blood tests showed liver not quite right, lots of scans and one lesion found in liver no other lesions anywhere else, so had TAXOTERE which shrank lesion, because of the area the tumor is in (next to main arteries in liver) no rads or operation to remove is possible. 2007 Routine MRI showed growth, had VENORALBINE this time which also shrank lesion 2007/8 same again this time had FASLODEX and I had a slight progression 2008 XELODA after 3 cycles scans showed progression into 2 other sectors in my liver as well as my existing lesion, put back on ZOLADEX TODAY Im on my 6th cycle of weekly TAXOL which after 4 cycles scans showed lesion is shrinking, so continuing on with remaining 6 cycles living in hope of the words NED! Sadly Avastin still not available here in the UK yet, although the whisper is that it might be by july, we'll just have to wait and see! things get a bit hazy with dates so this is correct as far as my chemo brain remembers! Ill probably be back to edit when I remember other things!! QOL would be great if it wasnt for my recent back problem which thankfully isnt cancer related! Sue xxx Just to update, TAXOL finished and showed lesions had shrunk, so at next scan around 10 weeks later lesions once again growing, infact the worst they have been, after alot of humming and harring onc decided to return to EPIRUBICIN and another which I cant remember the name of but begins with a C!! Dangerous as the Epi can damage heart muscles and there is a lifetime maximum dose - which Ive now passed so heart scans monthly. had 4 of 6 and bloods are improving, scan in 2 weeks so fingers crossed. June, 2008 Dx with IDC, left breast January 2004, had mastectomy and port placement. Dx with extensive bone mets March 2004, radiation to right hip for pain relief. Also started on Taxotere and continued until August 2004. Bone mets progressed, switched to Femara and Zoladex. Stayed on Femara and Zoladex for almost 2 years. Progression of bone mets noted in September 2006, tried Aromasin for 3 months but progression continued. Started Xeloda in January 2006. I have had 2 dose adjustments and currently take 3000 mg a day on a week on/week off schedule. Took the month of May off meds so I could enjoy vacation. Tumor marker (taken a week ago) has risen slightly from 19 to 29. Seeing onc tomorrow for 3 month visit and will see then if he recommends bone scan or any other changes at this time. I'm not employed, but do volunteer work at my tx center, and also teach several classes there. I tire easily, but overall I have great support and good quality of life. Take care, Joanie |

End of Feb 2008 - Have port surgery. started Taxol, Avastin and Zometa. Tumor markers fall with each monthly blood test. June 2008 - CT scan shows all the cancer in my nodes is shrinking, stable or gone. Switch Taxol too Abraxane. PET scan scheduled in end of September to check on bones. Keeping hope alive.... All subsequent mammograms no evidence of disease. Stage IV, Feb 2007 found my own mets to supraclavical and cervical neck 3 neck tumors. CT scan then found small tumors in both lungs, rest in lymph nodes...larger tumors internal mammary, mediastinum, liver. On Arimedex until further lymph node mets near heart in Nov 2007. Then went on UCLA clinical trial for Taxol and AMG706. All tumors shrank within 4 weeks, within 16 weeks in complete remission! Beth

Ok going on memory here but will do my best. July 04 lump found in left breast by me-36 years old. Mamogram, Ultrasound and biopsy confirmed cancer. August 04-lumpectomy but didnt get clean margins and sentinel node biopsy was positive. Oct 04-8 rounds of chemo Epirubicin, cytoxin and taxotere. Jan 05 decided on bilateral mastectomy. 1 node was positive. Clinical trial for montly shots to shut down ovaries and take ?-for the life of me I cant remember the name of it right now. Went to New Orleans for consult for DIEP and scheduled surgery. Katrina hit on my surgery dates so it was cancelled. Aug 05 experiencing pain in pelvic area-Assured it wasnt cancer. Pain continued and I informed onc at each visit. July 06-pain in right pelvic area-Onc assured me it wasnt cancer but I knew it was. I insisited on MRI and it confirmed cancer in pelvic bone and not only cancer it was broken. Fired that oncologist and never looked back. August 06-Herceptin, xeloda and zometa October 07-mets grew to lungs and liver. stopped herceptin and xeloda and started Tykerb and Abraxane. Jan 08-jaw necrosis from zometa and zometa stopped. Currently on Abraxane and Tykerb and mets to lungs have mostly all shrunk and liver is down to one spot that could be scar tissue. Bones are good. I work F/T and also live on a small farm of 10 acres and raise Nigerian Dwarf Dairy goats. Dx 2006, IDC, 2cm, Stage IV, Grade 2, 1/11 nodes, mets, ER+/PR+, HER2+ |
