we tried this once before and thought it was worth a shot to try again. bcmets normally does roll calls periodically and they do alot to help motivate and keep the fight up in some that get down and out. I thought this could help keep the spirits up here in the face of adversity! I'll be more than happy to start. If you somehow date your roll call it might help others keep in mind how long you are still surviving with cancer!
June 2008
LuAnn, dx 7/2/06 with bone mets to sternum and ribs
7/06 to 2/07 Arimidex/Zometa (stopped tx due to adverse s/e)
2/07 to 5/07 Aromasin/Zometa (had progression of bone mets)
5/07 to current (6/08) Faslodex/Zometa/Herceptin
Bone mets are very well under control and QOL is very well with the exception of back disorder that is non cancer related!

Linda---Diagnosed Nov. 17,1998: I had a lumpectomy followed with-- Adramycin and Cytoxan 4 treatments, 4 treatments of Taxol followed by 36 treatments of Radiation. It came back in the left breast. When I went to the Dr. to talk about What kind of Chemo was to be given, he was checking my right breast, found a lump, had a biopsy--malignant, that is how the other breast was removed 3 weeks later from the first breast. May 31 2002--Mastectomy of left breast---June 18, Mastectomy of right breast. Diagnosed with Her2--Herceptin and Navelbine. Stopped Navelbine in Nov. 2002(Dr. thought I had been on it long enough)---Jan.2003 it came back in chest walls. Navelbine added back. I stayed on these 2 meds til 2005 as the CA had not gone away--Xeloda was given,(necessary to stop it) the side effects were so bad--to hands and feet. 2006 Radiation 36 Treatments which ended in Oct. By Dec 23 2006 it was showing on my chest walls again. Feb. 2007 Taxotere 5 treatments( it made me so tired I felt Psychotic) med was stopped. Sept. 2007 Tykerb was started. It was necessary to add Navelbine--these treatments were stopped in Nov. 2008. The Dr and I decided to just "do nothing" give my body a break-- that was OK. So I had no Chemo for 9 months(after 6 yrs.); last month, I had some swollen glands, under my jaws and we done CT Scans--Normal---however there are the swollen glands, a biopsy was done, there are Breast Cancer cells in those glands---Needless to say, I will go back on Herceptin and Navelbine on Sept. 28. I seen after I wrote, this is for Stage IV--I have not been diagnosed for that---I moreso just wanted to share my journey. For all going through---don't give up!!! It has been a long journey, I am coming up on 11 years Survivor in Nov. and I am there!!! Moving on "Under Gods Graces. Linda C. LINDA C

March 1990 abnormal mammo April 90 biopsy 0.9 cm infiltrating ductcal carcinoma ER+ PR= May 90 modified radical mastectomy with immediate reconstruction 19 nodes negative Nov 90....implant exchange 1996 pain in sternum area...both Plastic surgeon and onco said not cancer related and pain would go away, but came back about every 6 months. Each time I saw doctors, but pain was attributed to some activity I had done and I was assured it could not be cancer since it had been over 5 yrs. In 98 pain was severe enough I told onco we had to do something and she sent me for a bone scan. July 98, Bone scan showed mets to manubrium and body of sternum. CAT scan showed 2 cm lesion in left lobe of liver and pleural nodules in left lung with lytic lesions. July 15,98 changed oncologists and started on taxoxifen and pamidronate. CA 27/29 was 262 CA/27/29 went down to 134 by Jan 99, but then rose gradually to 549 by Aug 2000 when treatment was changed to arimidex Oct 2000 Started Aromasin which took CA 27/29 all the way down to 18 in 2003. Scans were considered Stable Aug 2002 Pamidromant was changed to zometa due to shorter infusion time. June 2001 Carpal tunnel surgery Rt hand. 2002 Rt atrial myxoma detected in scan. April 2003 Total left Knee replacement. Dec.2004 pin place in 5th metatarsal and bone graft due to fracture failing to heal. Aug 2004 suspected PE which I was hospitalized for turned out to be myxoma which broke off and traveled to and became lodged in my pulmonary artery. DVT right calf. Now take coumadin daily because of blockage in artery. Nov 2004 changed from aromasin to faslodex. Feb 2008 bone and CAT scans stable, but pain in lower back caused me to see orthopedic dr who ordered an MRI in April which showed a 2.5 cm lesion at S1. Followup biopsy showed it to be breast cancer mets. May 08 2 weeks of radiation to sacrum May 08 Started avastin (every other week) and oral cytoxin, methotrexate. Aug. 08 TIA. Hospitalized for two days. Feb. 09 New bone mets and new areas in liver. Started Abraxane weekly with Avastin every other week. Remained on monthly schedule of zometa and faslodex. July scans showed decrease in size in liver tumors and CA 27/29 went from 209 - 87 after 22 treatments when I decided I wanted to quit due to neuropathy, infected nails, heavy nose bleeds and constant tearing of eyes. Oncologist agreed to take a break, but wanted to resume later with drug in taxol family since abraxane "was working" as he put it. Sept 09 had consultation with rad/onco to discuss radiofrequency ablation and IMRT. She felt I would benefit from either treatment, but my onco said no since I have so many mets. Sept 28 and Sept 30, 1990 Consulted with onco at MD Anderson and after discussing things with my onco and making his recommendations to him, I am to try Aromasin again starting on Monday. Sorry this was so long, but a lot of things have happened in almost 20 years. I am not having any pain and continue to work as a dental hygienist. . Marybe

That test was not used when I was first diagnosed. This was the first chemo that had a major effect on my hair. So far, it seems to be working as bone pain has gone away and tumor markers are going down (but not yet normal). Next scans will be in December. |
