Mena hasn't posted here in over a year and doesn't participate here but I thought a few of you who remember her might be interested in how she is doing. She has significant metasteses in her lungs and recently found out that her liver is now involved. In January she had severe pain and breathing problems, but had a nice little remission after undergoing radiation. She is now having pain and breathing problems again, but is undergoing a new round of chemo and is hopeful that this will work.
She has a trip planned with her family to California in August and desperately hopes that she will be well enough to go. She is putting up a good fight...she's not willing to give up. Your prayers and positive thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Mena, you go girl!!!

Mena was scheduled to go home on Friday, I know she was a little anxious about this because she was feeling very, very tired the last time I talked to her. I gave her a little time to settle in and tried calling yesterday, but she was probably asleep. I am hoping that her new situation at home is working out for her and that she is getting a little of the old energy back. Sending love and strength to you, Mena. Just got off the phone with Mena and she sounds better than she has sounded since before she went to the hospital. She's at home, on an oxygen system that she has to take with her wherever she goes, but she sounds much more relaxed. Things are working out, her family is pitching in and taking turns taking care of her, and she has a visiting nurse coming. Her cats are glad to have her home! She asked me to thank everybody for their prayers and positive thoughts. You are all so important to her!! Miz |

Spoke to Mena today and she has been at home about a week now, comfortably settled in her lazyboy chair..where she lives and sleeps. It is nice to be home, to have kitties, and to have her younger sister nearby who is always there when she is needed. Life will probably never be the same again. Mena is permanently hooked up to her oxygen, but it is portable and she can take it with her. Last week she went to the hairdresser's for a haircut. Yesterday she went to a graduation party...and it now totally exhausted!!! But she loves to hear from friends and is so much fun to talk to...don't know what I'd do if I didn't have Mena to pour out to.... The trip this summer is probably out of the picture, but it is good to be alive and among loved ones. XXXOOO |

Hey mena-watchers! (LOL--she's gonna feel like Jon & Kate soon!) I just got off the phone with our friend---we had a nice l ong chat! Her body is slowly regaining strength but she is in very good spirits! The oxygen tanks are kinda freaking her out, but we agreed that after a few weeks she'll probably take it all in stride & it will get easier...maybe even plan a little trip after all. She wanted to let old friends know she still thinks of you & I hope she'll come back here to post on her own soon! I was really happy to spend some quality time with her. I am still so amazed at her strength & energy even when her body is tired & recovering! I'm proud to be Mena's friend! Keep your prayers going for her, please cuz they sure seem to be working! Hey Guys... Mena is at home, in her chair, on her oxygen. A little bored, she said. Her sister and sister-in-law are taking very good care of her, but they both work full time, so they do just the best the can. I got her caught up on a lot of the posts here, told her what was going on at the mojo thread, and she told me she's going to try and get on the computer herself. But with all the tubes and no reading glasses it is probably quite a technical challenge these days. It is always so nice to talk to her, she is such a good listener and such a good friend. Faith, your posts are so very special...and Saint, you are such a good and wonderful friend! All of you are very important to her, and I wish she could get on here and communicate with each of you directly. I'm taking off for a few weeks and won't be posting, but I hope Mena gets on her computer, and I hope she stays connected...I'll be calling every few days as I always do. Take care all...and strength and prayers for Mena, there is courage in abundance, strength and hope, strength and prayers, we all love you, we all pray for you... XXXOOO |

Good morning, Mena. If you are able to make use of your telephone, I know it would be a blessing for you to talk to Saint. She's had another unsettling 'set-back' that is undoubedly connected to her recent rads. She's laughing and shaking her head in bemusement, but I know she gets such inspiration from you. I rode my bike yesterday. I have now ridden 415 miles since I began this summer..... that's a whole lot of praying for you and our other sisters -- as the wheels turn. I think of you on every ride, specifically. Know that we are all sending you our encouragement -- thru prayers, laughter, well wishes and good vibrations. Each in our own manner & language. Much love. xx00xx00xx Keep up with my travels at: www.rainbowswithinreach.blogspot.com

Hello Mena-Watchers, It's been a while since I've posted because I've had no internet, but I did talk to Mena last week and we had a very nice visit. She sounded good--really good--spiritually strong, at peace, realistic, ready to deal with whatever happens, and calm despite the things she had to tell me. Her pain level increases at a steady pace, when I talked to her she had reached a new threshold and she needed an increase in meds, and she purposely called me when the pain meds were at their height so she would feel good when we talked. She has a new social worker who is someone who she can really talk to and tell everything, and that makes her feel safe, also her family has been very caring and supportive. She has lots of visitors. We had a nice talk and shared many things. She is very grateful for the posts here (which I couldn't read last time--no internet!!). She had had a nice talk with Saint. And more than ever, I have a strong feeling that Mena and I will always be connected. We talked about the new thread that Firni started on Longevity and Quality of Life; it is kind of an extension of Mena's mojo thread, but deals with quality of life on many levels. This kind of discussion would not be possible without Mena's breaking the ice first. We need to have more discussions like this. Mena sends her love to all of you!!! XXXOOO Miz
