Kathy!  Wonderful to see you post.  Wow, very scary.  I'm relieved that it's cleared up and hope the Advil continues to keep the headaches at bay.  You're doing great and I am so impressed!  Hugs,

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time right now.  I took xeloda for 18 months before progression.  I have a full bottle in the medicine cabinet...send me a pm if you would like it and I will gladly send it to you.  At least it might help with your expenses!

 Good luck!

Getting the money end of things worked out.  I am pleased that I am having minimal se.

I hope you get wonderful news on yours scans, promptly, on the 11th. I haven't heard yet - the MRI was performed Sunday morning and it's mid-Thurs afternoon! Will you really be able to evaluate the Xeloda after such a short, but expensive (!) course on it? I'll be sending CA good vibrations **~~~**~~~** and of course including you in my prayers.

Hi There,

I saw this post and wanted to send my good wishes and also to ask a question.  My mom was just diagnosed with Brain mets with week and she begin Tykerb and then next week she begins WBR and Xeloda.  I saw that you were given a port in your brain for chemo.  Was WBR not an option for you, and does the chemo port work better on brian mets than xeloda and radiation.

I am still learning about all this and what is best to help my mom

Hugs Michelle

Kathy ~ I send good vibrations, kind thoughts and sincere supplications for your scans and reports tomorrow. Hope you get the news you long to hear,"It's working!" I cannot believe the resilience you have shown in the face of this daunting (and more than slightly scary) procedure. And doing it while attemtpting to maintain your career! That's incredible.

Michelle, I'm butting in to answer your questions. Kathy's brain mets were not your run-of-the-mill mets. It involved the cells and fluid in the lining of the brain and spinal cord. Localized and acute care are crucial to halt the spread of the mets, commonly called lepto-meningeal mets or meningeal disease. Xeloda and Tykerb may be used to accompany treatment, but they are too slow-acting to address the grave nature and the severity of lepto-meningeal mets.

Your mom's WBR therapy, with Tykerb and Xeloda is entirely appropriate, IMHO. Be prepared for some brutal fatigue, that diminishes more slowly than she (or you!) would like. But this too, shall pass.
