Okay, anybody?  This is a slight problem but an annoying one.  Anyone have any clue of what to do about mouth sores that develop with chemo?

Ask your chemo nurse - they can give you something called "magic mouthwash" which is supposed to help with sores.  It's a prescription.

You can also try biotene toothpaste and mouthwash.

Various mouthwashes. Baking soda and water rinse. Canker sores really suck. I hate them. I bought a mouthwash called ReBalance for chemo sores. It helped with temp relief but it still took days to go away.

I developed a bad case of thrush from steroids from chemo - looked like someone painted my tongue with heavy white paint.  Dr. prescribed something that really cleared it up.  In the past with radiation I was prescribed "magic" mouthwash.  The name is somewhat a misnomer, but it did help.  Put a call into your doctor, he may very well just call something into the pharmacy.  My heart goes out to you - I was a real bitch with those sores in my mouth!

I use Biotene toothpaste, mouthwash, spray and gel (to help with dryness).  I also have the "magic mouthwash", which helps heal the sores and numbs your mouth some.  I have thrush from radiation or the steroids and quite possibly both.  But I did use all of the above during chemo.

Magic Mouthwash worked for me too.

There are numerous magic mouthwash formulations. Most contain at least three ingredients.
Formulas may contain a combination of an antibiotic (to reduce the bacterial flora around the lesion), antihistamine (for local anesthetic effect), antifungal (to stop any fungal growth), steroid (to reduce inflammation), a local anesthetic/pain reliever, or an antacid (to enhance coating of the ingredients on the mouth). Most of the formulations are used every four to six hours with instructions to hold in the mouth for one to two minutes then spit out or swallow. Patients should be instructed to shake the bottle wellbefore using and not to eat or drink for 30 minutes after use.

The above came from this link which is also includes formulas for magic mouthwash.  Hope it helps:  mercypharmacy.wikispaces.com/f...

I rinsed with baking soda in water and I took 3-4 acidophilus capsules daily, especially about 2 days prior and 1 week past each chemo. I never got anything worse than some mild thrush, and only for a few days.
