First and formost I want to send my thoughts and prayers to all of the women on these posting boards as I have been reading many posts the last few days.

I have a had a lump in my breast for well over 7 or 8 months and finally gained enough courage to bring it to the attention of my Dr. and went for an ultrasound Monday the 14th.

at the time of my ultrasound the tech who was taking the ultrasound stopped and called in the radiologist..which threw me a little.. He stated that it 'looked' like a Fibroadenoma but because of my age (29) and the fact that their was only one he wanted more testing done.  OK??

I picked up a copy of the ultrasound and report so that I can bring it to the breast specialist I am scheduled to see Tues the 21st and this is what it reads..

"Palpable solid vascular lobular density measuring 1.7 cm in maximal diameter.  There is moderate but not enhance through transmission and sharply defined margins."

Ultrasound BIRADS 4, Suspicious abnormality

If Fibroadenoma is begnin and should be classified a BIRADS 2-- why is this BIRADS 4 and should I be worried?

First of all, welcome to the boards, and Good for you for getting your lump checked out!!!!  Not everyone is as brave as you are.

No imaging is 100% sensitive (meaning it picks up all breast cancer) or 100% specific (meaning it only picks up breast cancer and doesn't pick up 'junk' (benign things).)

Many young women (and you would certainly be considered young for breast cancer) have lumps that end up being fibroadenomas or cysts (both of which are normally benign.)  Particularly for younger women, about 80% of biopsies end up being benign.  Many of these in younger women are for fibroadenomas.

What I'm trying to say is not all fibroadenomas are classified as BIRADS 2.  (They don't know for sure if a lump is a fibroadenoma before they biopsy it.)

This gives an overview of the diagnosis process. http://imaginis.com/breasthealth/diagnosis.asp

OK... well I had my consult with the Breast Specialist on Tuesday the 22nd.. Good news is she is 'pretty' positive that the Lump I found is only a Fibrodenoma BUT she found another what she thinks is a Fibrodenoma AND a Lipoma... She did want to follow up with biopsy and I opted to just have all 3 lumps removed and then she can do all the testing she desires.. lol.. I dont want them there!  I am scheduled 10/30 for Surgery
