I asked a ?'s before but no one responed I had a 2nd mammogram and US today, They said I have a lymph node and to come back in a year. My Mom had BC so I'm not ok with a year, Is it ok to have a lymph node that they see on a mammogram? Does anyone think they should look into it more? Do they ever bi-lymph nodes? Maybe I should trust the hospital!

Can you get another opinion or request a biopsy of the node? Given your family hx you are allowed to be pro-active and pursue additional testing. There is nothing wrong with telling the doctor(s) you are fearful to wait a year as this is TOO STRESSFUL for you. Would they tell their wife or family member to wait a year? Hi, Liz. What did they say about the lymph node? Was there something abnormal about it? It is just my opinion, but I encourage my sisters to push for an mri to rule out the slightest possibility that breast cancer is lurking in an atypical presentation. Our mom died of breast cancer and I was diagnosed last year, with a mixed tumor hidden in a fibroadenoma. It was an enlarging lymph node that helped me to find the tumor, but it should have been noted years before. Lymph nodes can show up on mammos. I don't think they would send you away if they thought you were at risk. But it's important that you exhaust your concerns. Early detection is our best weapon; sometimes the system is not on board with more tests, the majority of which produce benign findings. I'd want the security of the confirmed benign finding. Yes, lymph nodes can be biopsied; mine was. Second opinion, if it were me, and I'd push for an mri. Warmest, Cathy |

thank you soooooooo much for writing They told be the lymph node looked fine B9 the 1st mammogram said i had very dense breasts with a nolude with indistinct margins. That's why they wanted more pics. Today they said B9 lymph node. I'm guessing that they see distinct margins now on the U sound. Sometimes I think I look in to things to much. My 2nd cousin deid at 39 because a doc told her that her lump was nothing to worry about (10 years ago) Her Sister told me to get a 2nd op and not to wait 12 months, she's a nurse. So I guess I should go with my gut feelings. Thanks again Liz |

I would opt for that 2nd opinion. I had a large lump in my breast and my doctor told me not to worry, it was an enlarged lymp node. So I didn't. A year later, I found out if WAS cancer. Lori Diagnosis: 3/27/2008, ILC, 5cm, Stage II, Grade 2, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

How can you loose, even if for just peace of mind, pushing this issue some more. Many of here have woes to tell of "come back in blah, blah..." just to find out the benign was something else. I do understand your situation is a bit murky: are you saying the "indistinct bordered mass" on first mammogram turned out to be a lymph node, or that the ultrasound found no "mass" as per mammogram but found a lymph node? Was the lymph node in the area the mammogram mass was or over in the axilla? Maybe you need an MRI given the +mammogram and ultrasound findings? Either way, no scanning technique is 100% accurate. A biopsy brings you a lot closer to the truth. I'd let your sister help you with this matter if she can. Are you possibly a BRCA (breast cancer gene) carrier, given your family history? Best, Tender It cannot be emphasized too strongly that treatment of each patient is a highly individualized matter. (FDA-approved labeling for warfarin (Coumadin) NDA 9-218/5-105)

Thank you everyone! My Doctor (OBGY) just called and told me everything looked fine and come back in a year . I said I wasn't ok with a year. He said ok come back in 6 months, I then said what about a biopsied. He said NO that would be way over board! So now I'm back to feeling like I'm over reacting to this. I wish I could be less wimpy, I was scared to ask for the biopsied. He has been my Doctor for 23 years I trust him,But reading all these posts from Women who have BC makes me worry. I guess I'll look up a Breast cancer close to me. My Mother went to a teaching hospital for her BC. I'll pray for all of you! |

In my case, they couldn't find anything in my breast but the enlarged lymph node was biopied and it came back positive for bc. I think you should get a biopsy to totally ensure that it is benign. There is not way of being 100% sure without a biopsy. Doctors make mistakes all the time - even the good ones and the ones we like. BRCA2+ first dx in Oct. 2004 2nd dx Feb. 2009 a new primary

I'm waiting now for northwestern hospital in Il to call me back to make an appointment. I heard that is one of the top hospital for BC. My Mom went to Loyola but Her Doctor moved and she doesn't like the one that took her place. I feel much better just making an appiontment! I shouldn't care so much about what people think. I'm the one who's life could be on the line. I have to remember that. I have read alot, 80% is B9 and I'll feel so much better with someone else telling me that. Thanks again to everyone who responded! My prays are w/you Liz |

I had a biopsy and it proved malignant... "I say err on the side of caution, even if you have to pay for it yourself"... Good luck... Dee

My first three mammo's got call backs because of a nodule. Turns out it's a lymph node and nothing to worry about. But I did...for the first two years. I saw a bs immediately after my first "go round". I needed reassurance that everything was alright because my mom had just started her battle with bc. Everything checked out fine four years ago and continues to be fine. Peace of mind is a beautiful thing. |
