I was wondering if the area that was excised during my biopsy (excisional bx 10/7/09) feels hard/firm now because it is scar tissue? Originally this area felt full with fluid but then became hard...the entire area that was removed. The incision was made around my areola but the lump was at 9 o clock half way between areola and edge of outter breast...and if this could be scar tissue can scar tissue cause wrinkling/puckering/gathering or however you describe it. The area is still bruised also. I want to mention that I never had any of these symptoms until after the surgery...I noticed the hardness first and then wrinkling in the same area following...my areola is also shaped differantly now. Could this just be from the surgery? Sorry to all of you who are just starting this journey who really need the support right and to those of you who are going through the grueling waiting period! I know I've been there!

Yes, it's likely. After one of my biopsies I got a small lump and a tiny dimpled area. When I had my mastectomy they cut out that part too and mentioned it in the path report - but it's perfectly normal. They take a piece out of you and it takes a while to heal. Mine never got a chance to heal, but hopefully yours will. :) Ann's cancer blog. http://butdoctorihatepink.blogspot.com/

coolbreeze....did you have an excisional biopsy also? My area of firmness is not a lump...it is an area about 2 inches long and an inch wide that is firm but flat...and the skin that lays over it is wrinkled. adoes this sound any type of normal. I'm scared of ibc. I saw the surgeon he says everything looks good, and he says the wrinkling will go away. When I asked about ibc he said why would you think about that? Then said something about a rash that I don't have...I'm so frustrated, I just want to know. Is this scar tissue? Is it normal for the area excised to be firm? Is that a normal part of the healing process? And could that cause that area of skin to wrinkle? Or do I need to go back tell him give me another d*mn bx cuz I dnt trust the first one? I'm sorry if I seem irate. I sorta am. I'm angry that we go through this, they tell us BE PROACTIVE, and when we are they send us home with NO ANSWERS! |

Jalmom In my case I have an area of sort of flat hardening after stereotactic biopsy in July. I originally had no lump, just calcification. Here's how my progress of healing went. Biopsy in early July Lots of bruising, swelling. Development of large hematoma (plum sized). Hematoma felt very hard. As it's slowly resolving I can feel an area of flat hardening. It's getting better very slowly as the body reabsorbs the hematoma. Is it possible that you have a resolving hematoma? As your doctor. I thought once the biopsy was over healing would be quick. For me that hasn't been the case. Good luck |

Yes I have an area that is flat and hard, previousley it was swollen and felt full of fluid, with the hardening ive noticed the wrinkling and the bottom of my areola appears to be pulled up right under the nipple. I have seen the doc twicce since the bx, he says all looks good. i just dont know if i should maybe seek a second oppinion. On a happier note the New Orleans saints are 8 - 0!!!!!! Well, I had a lumpectomy for a 2cm IDC in August, 2006. With the result, a huge hematoma. My entire breast was bruised, and it continued, down my back. It was grotesque. Although, over time, it receded. Yet, while the "lump" at the excision site continued to recede, it didn't go down, fast enough, for the docs. They all just wanted to keep biopsing, "the lump." In January of 2009, I had an MRI they said, Birad 5, I had cancer, again. In the end, it was NO cancer. For me, my body is STILL resolving that 2006 hematoma. That caused a false positive on that MRI. Someone said, pay attention, to your own body. I could not agree, more. |

sunshine- it depends on a few things. what type of doc etc. chances are u will be sent for a mammo and an ultrasound. IF something looks suspicious they will probably set up a biopsy for it. IF things look ok but warrant watching to make sure, they will set up a "come back in X months." 80% of lumps that are biopsies are B9. good luck dcis, idc, pagets er+,pr+ her2+++, mast, ooph, hyst
