I'm 14 years old and have found a big hard lump in my left breast. This has made my left breast noticably larger. I can't really tell if the lump moves or not, and it hurts a little bit when I press on it. I have also been experiencing chest pain recently and my breathing feels a little bit tighter. My mom is taking me to the doctor on July 27 and I'm hoping that it's nothing too serious, but I'm still worried. I would be grateful of any helpful comments, thank you!

Hi Ally, and welcome to Breastcancer.org.

We're sorry that you're facing this worry! As you probably know, breast cancer is very unusual in someone as young as you, but there are other lumps that are benign, and need to be checked out by a doctor.

Here is a link to an article on the main Breastcancer.org site called What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas. Please post again to let us know how your visit to the doctor goes! Other community members will post too, and we're always here to support you.

Hi Ally I'm really sorry you are having this problem but it's a really good thing that your mom is taking you to the doctor to get checked out.

I would be very surprised if anything nasty was found.  When you are fourteen your hormones are all over the place and often can cause your developing breast to have lumps and unevenness that settles given time.  I do hope that is the case for you.

Good luck with your checkup and please let us know how everything goes.

Love n hugs.  Chrissy

I found my peace which gave me strength.

You're 14, and you're having some changes in your body that are most likely normal, due to changes in hormones.  The only advice I have for you is to go out and go to the beach or pool iwith your friends and enjoy your summer vacation.  Think about it for a second... if your mother thought it were an emergency, your appointment would be sooner than 7/27.

So, quit looking at this stuff on Google, and go do things with your friends. :)

Good luck!!  Please let us know how you're doing. ;)

have you talked to your mom about how worried you are?  if you are super worried (like it's keeping you awake at night), maybe your mom can move the appointment up.  i'm sorry you have this worry - it stinks!

definitely get out and enjoy your friends... but talk to your mom (if you can) about your worry.

hugs.

Thank you all for your support. I will post a reply of what is found after my appointment. And my mom couldn't get me into the doctor any earlier due to work and our doctor probably being busy.

Hi Ally

I remember  when I was your age I had these hard lumpy things in my developing breasts. I was terrified that I had breast cancer! I was too afraid to tell anyone and was sure I would die. Anyhow, now Im 49 and I smile when I think about it. Ofcourse the lumpy feeling was my breasts developing!

I feel sure that ths wont be anything sinister but understand how afraid you must feel! Please let us know how you get on at the doctors, and all the best :)

So, I went to the doctor today and she said that my left breast was indeed larger but it felt like normal breast tissue. She says that it's probably just my breasts devolping irregularly. We are going to keep an eye on it and if it gets any worse I might have to get an ultrasound.

That sounds reasonable.  Hopefully it'll just go away on its own as you grow.  Doctors have a lot more experience at these kinds of things than we do, and know what it's supposed to feel like.  Have a great rest of the summer!!! Smile
